Overview of this review
Runners who like to tackle speed training sessions on the asphalt are the target market of the Puma Silverion. This product features a silhouette that is common in many of the brand’s designs, with a stitch-on overlay-laden upper working alongside a heel-only cushioning system to deliver a classic Puma in-shoe experience. A sleek, foot-shaped look participates with an extended ghillie lacing system to heighten the visual aspect.
Size and fit
The Puma Silverion has been constructed to be true to size. Runners are welcome to use the sizes with which they are most comfortable, thus giving themselves the capacity to enjoy an in-shoe experience that is agreeable. Still, having the chance to test this shoe prior to purchase or read/watch reviews that cover the sizing aspect can improve the chances of gaining a welcoming foot-wrap.
The forefoot and heel of the outsole unit of the Puma Silverion have been decoupled to encourage impact isolation and natural anatomical mechanics when taking each step.
A rubber compound covers the decoupled sections of this road running shoe. The job of this material is to protect the midsole from the abrasive nature of the ground. It is also responsible for providing surface traction, a trait that is fundamental for all running footwear.
The forefoot has shallow flex grooves and a convex shape to encourage the foot to roll forward naturally and with haste when gearing towards the toe-off.
The heel part of the platform is the only part that features traditional cushioning. The foam pod that rests in this portion of the product attenuates impact shock during the foot-strike, thus delivering comfort and support. Heel strikers are the ones that are likely to enjoy this accoutrement as they do more heel striking than those who run using different stepping methods.
An insole is added to provide a soft surface for the underside of the foot. This flexible piece can be removed or replaced with a new one if the wearer wants to do so.
The upper unit of the Puma Silverion uses a multilayered mesh. The purpose of this textile is to protect the foot and keep it wrapped at all times. Its multiple layers aim to maintain durability.
Synthetic overlays reinforce the front, sides, and heel of the upper unit. These elements are tasked with preserving the upright position of the silhouette. They also help the lacing system when it comes to holding the foot in place.
A ghillie lacing system graces the upper. Semi-plush shoelaces snake through fabric lace-holes to serve as the fit-adjustment system. The extended nature of this system’s design (the lace-loops are deliberately placed close to the underfoot platform) helps to encompass the whole midfoot in an exaggerated manner. Unconventional lacing methods are found in some running-optimized series like the New Balance Cypher Run.
