The Ortuseight Aeroflash successfully blends modern cushioning with the aggressive feel expected from a sprint spike. We were surprised by how soft the midsole feels underfoot, yet the stiff plate keeps every stride quick and powerful. We also found that the upper feels lightweight, breathable, and built with nice materials. However, the plush cushioning is a love-it-or-leave-it feature, and the race-focused platform may feel too demanding for frequent training sessions.

Who should NOT buy

Many sprint athletes prefer a firmer ride with minimal foam compression, whereas the Ortuseight Aeroflash is designed to deliver a noticeably softer underfoot feel. If that's your preference, we think the Nike Maxfly 2 is a better match.

We also believe that the Aeroflash's exceptionally stiff ride may feel too demanding for beginners. Instead, we recommend starting (and saving some money!) with the Nike Rival Sprint.

Heel stack

Ortuseight pushed the Aeroflash right to the edge of the current World Athletics regulations, which cap stack height at 20 mm for running spikes.

Forefoot stack

Drop

Although Ortuseight advertises a 0 mm drop, our measurements revealed a tiny 0.7 mm offset instead. In our opinion, the difference is so small that even the most experienced track athlete would be unable to notice it.

Midsole softness

The Aeroflash features a Pebax-based foam, a material known for delivering good energy return. However, Ortuseight gave it a distinctive feel by opting for an unusually soft formulation, which measured just 26.6 AC on our Asker C durometer.

As a result, the ride feels more cushioned than what most sprint spikes deliver. In our opinion, runners looking for a firm, direct feel may find it too soft, whereas those who enjoy greater foam compression will likely appreciate its character.

Plate

The Aeroflash features a full-length plate positioned beneath the insole and directly above the Cirrostratus foam, allowing it to compress the midsole more effectively and maximise energy return. Ortuseight calls it the Kinetic Blade, and we have to admit it's a cool name.

We created a gel replica of the shoe's interior, and we found that Ortuseight stayed remarkably close to the fit offered by most modern running spikes.

Flexibility / Stiffness

The Aeroflash comes with remarkable stiffness. It required 29.2N to reach a 30-degree bend in our flexibility test, confirming that the Kinetic Blade plate is far more than a gimmick.

Tongue padding

The Aeroflash delivers exceptional lockdown through its lacing system while keeping pressure evenly distributed across the instep. As a welcome bonus, Ortuseight also includes laces with a subtle sawtooth texture that helps them stay securely tied.
