Jordan Flight Luxe History

Michael Jordan changed the sneaker landscape forever since he started wearing the Air Jordan 1 in 1984. As he collects awards and recognition all over the world during his 15 year NBA career, his brand also elevated to an unreached stature. Even after retirement, the Jordan brand continues to grow.

There is a valid argument that Jordan single-handedly launched the sneakerhead culture. Back in his playing days, he would always wear a new pair. He mentioned in an interview that a new pair every game makes him play better. For the loyal fans, though, it is impractical to emulate Jordan’s approach but to own every J’s that will come out is something that can be close to that.

But with that immense popularity also had its share of negative effects. Cases of robbery and mugging just to get Jordan shoes were reported during the 80s. Today, whenever there is a release of Jordan Retros, there are videos uploaded on the internet of people shoving and fighting each other at the store only to make sure that they can secure a pair.

The Jordan brand managed to get endorsement deals from current NBA superstars like Russell Westbrook, Kawhi Leonard and Chris Paul and other non-basketball athletes. Still, Jordan’s most successful sneakers are the ones he wore when he was playing in the NBA, which is known as the Air Jordans.

Inspired by NASA’s fighter jet the X-15, the Air Jordan 15 was introduced in 1999 as the first Jordan brand release that Michael Jordan cannot wear anymore in the NBA because of his second retirement. Similar to the Air Jordan 2, Tinker Hatfield conceptualized the 15 with top-notch Italian shoes in mind and the inclusion of a woven pattern on the upper. Hatfield adapted the moccasins when designing the AJ15's high cushioned collar granting an easy slip-on.

As a modern reiteration of the Air Jordan 15 tailored for the casual crowd, the Jordan Flight Luxe is one of the many offerings that represent the eminent Jumpman into the future. Initially released in 2017, it exemplifies the great qualities of both low and mid-top shoes for a desired performance. Stylish as it needs to be, the Flight Luxe already garnered acclaim from the brand loyalists and casuals.
