Overview of this review
Size and fit
Putting the Jordan DNA is easy thanks to the pull tabs on the heel and the tongue. Its asymmetric lacing style administers a snug fit which is aided by the Jordan heritage-inspired TPU lace apparatus. Comfort and cushioning are provided by the mesh upper on top of an Injected Unit midsole for a lightweight ride. For a hugging feel, the sneaker uses a gusseted tongue which adds to its coziness.
Jordan DNA Style
The Jordan DNA is a combination of accents from previous iconic Air Jordan shoes compiled in a trendy silhouette. The low top sneaker takes the contemporary shape of the Jordan Reveal with matching TPU eye stays which are somehow pulled out from the Air Jordan IV. The jagged outlining of the midsole resembles the tooling of the III or the V.
A sneaker with such features is destined to be displayed by wearing skinny jeans or shorts to emphasize its details further. It also gives off that outdoor vibe but not too much to be considered as a hardcore court sneaker.
The Jordan DNA's upper is split into two materials which are mesh on the front and synthetic leather on the ankle part. Jumpman logos are displayed on the lateral side of the heel panel and the bottom of the lace bed. TPU lace locks with adjustable holes can be seen from afar. The sneaker also has a basketball-driven outsole with pivot points at the ball and heel.
Jordan DNA History
Basketball is a game of speed, skill, knowledge, and strength. From its origins in the 19th century, its never-changing goal of hitting the basket hastens to invigorate through time. There are numerous eminent players down in history, but one seems to stand out of that forgotten sea of superstars--Michael Jordan.
Michael Jordan: the legend
As a kid, Michael Jordan had a passion for greatness as manifested by his actions during high school. Michael was one of the gifted human beings being bestowed an athletic body and an intelligent mind which he utilized in many different sports including soccer and basketball.
He continued to enhance his skills by the latter part of his high school years and ventured on basketball, which was unideal for him at first, considering his height. When he grew a few inches, he got an opportunity to play for his school in Wilmington, North Carolina and was one of the top players to join the McDonalds All-American Team.
College teams like Duke, Syracuse, Virginia, are drooling to have a taste of the Jordan experience when they found out that the upcoming superstar is up for grabs. Realizing he had to play for his hometown, Jordan decided to stick to NCAA.
After NCAA and the 1982 game-winning shot, Jordan would move on to be drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 NBA season. His performance was exceptional as a rookie and would progress in the subsequent years. Michael's world began to change when Nike approached him with a contract proposal.
Jordan as an endorser
Jordan signed up for the endorsement deal with Nike which includes him displaying a player specific shoe. Speculations about the original mode surfaced years after its release, but as absolute fanatics soon find out, it was the Nike Air Ship. The Air Ship was banned because it does not follow the NBA color rules which led to giving Jordan a fine worth $5,000 everytime he wears it in game.
The controversy became Nike's fuel to start a new franchise of Jordan kicks which, by the way, contains an Air-Sole unit in each one of them. 1984 witnessed the birth of the Air Jordan I, a high top basketball silhouette that originally flashes the colors of Jordan's home team.
From then on, a plethora of Jordan shoes followed with details pulled out from the life of his Airness. The Jordan franchise not only replenished its designs annually but also spawned a new Nike subgroup called the Jordan Brand. More and more followers respected the brand and would soon become a massive hit in sneaker collecting.
