Good to know

  • Now on its seventh version, the Gel Venture from Asics delivers all the improvements that trail runners are looking for, in order to log more miles with sustained comfort. The shoe is meant to appeal to both beginner and seasoned runners of the great outdoors.
  • The upper features a few changes, primarily the design elements and materials used. The technology that is present and its benefits remain the same as in the previous version.
  • The rest of the shoe’s technologies have retained those of the Gel Venture 7’s earlier iteration. However, the overall structure of the shoe displays some noticeable updates, including a lighter weight compared to its predecessor, as well as an improved fit for better running performance on rugged terrain.

Like the previous releases and many other Asics running shoes, the Gel Venture 7 is built to be true-to-size. It also has an anatomical structure that mimics the natural shape of the foot. Runners of all foot volumes should find a good fit as the Gel Venture 7 comes in Medium and Extra Wide for the men’s version, while the women’s version is offered in Medium and Wide.

The Asics High Abrasion Rubber—or AHAR for short—is a rubber compound made from durable and long-lasting components. Compared to the conventional rubber, AHAR is twice as tough, therefore ensuring the abrasion-resistance and grip that the runner needs. For a road-running counterpart, the Asics Gel Nimbus 21 is a good shoe example.

A set of reversed lugs make up part of the outsole’s tread pattern, which enhances the gripping capabilities of the Gel Venture 7. These lugs are also meant to perform well on uphill and downhill terrains.

The main component of the Gel Venture 7’s midsole is the rearfoot Gel® cushioning. This silicone-based gel is placed beneath the ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)  foam unit and is intended to lend a shock-absorbing quality to the shoe. As the Gel® cushioning absorbs impact from footstrike, fatigue is lessened and, therefore, the ride is more comfortable.

The midsole is also equipped with a removable insole for additional cushioning and underfoot protection. It could be replaced by custom orthotics if the user prefers.

Sturdy synthetic leather comprises part of the upper of the Asics Gel Venture 7. It works hand-in-hand with mesh to deliver a number of benefits: a breathable unit, durable structure, and protective coverage. Beneath the upper is a fabric lining that intends to provide ease to the foot.

The other elements of the upper also contribute to the shoe’s overall comfort level; these include the padded tongue and collar.
