Good to know
These classic low-top sneakers from Puma don a retro-meets-sporty appeal that hints back to its running shoe silhouette roots.
The upper is mainly made of a mesh material that not only offers sufficient foot ventilation for extra comfort but also largely contributes to the shoe being lightweight. The mesh upper, in addition to the low-top construction, also allows flexible and non-restrictive foot movement. Synthetic leather overlays on the forefoot, sidewalls, and heel area, on the other hand, function to hold the foot better and give extra support.
Like most Puma low-top sneakers, the Axis features a lace-up closure system for a custom fit. It consists of five pairs of eyelets, cotton laces, and a central loop tab (printed with Puma branding) to help keep the tongue in place. The eyelets, which are placed on the synthetic leather overlays, are not reinforced with metal or any material. Towards the collar are two more pairs of eyelets, as with running shoes, to give wearers an option of tying their shoes extra tight.
Also, the Axis features a SoftFoam sockliner for superior cushioning. Both the collar and tongue are lightly padded for extra comfort.
The Puma Axis is one that would probably call your attention whether you prefer a retro running-inspired kick or you're just in need of a stylish yet functional pair.
Designed based on an OG running shoe, this low-top features a breathable mesh upper with industrial-inspired synthetic leather reinforcements on the forefoot, sides, and heel for that sporty and everyday go-to vibe. Its light and comfy construction make it ideal for wearing whenever you're running an errand, doing your daily routine, or up for just anything under the sun.
The Puma Axis is available in multiple colorways that are mostly in muted colors and varying combinations between black, white, navy blue, and gray. Most releases of this sneaker lack vibrant and loud colors, hence making it one of the most versatile and easy to wear Puma sneakers for both men and women.
Some colorways of the Puma Axis include Puma white/peacoat, Puma white/high rise, Puma black/Puma white, and Puma black/asphalt.
For a sneakerhead, a single look is all it takes to know that the Puma Axis is a running-inspired model that fuses comfort, style, and performance. While the exterior of the Axis immediately gets the approval of most Puma followers, it has noteworthy features and unique design accents that further elevates its sneaker game.
The sides of this shoe are reinforced with synthetic leather overlays for additional support. But what’s definitely worth noting is that on the medial side is a prominent Jumping Cat logo – a kind of branding that distinguishes this shoe apart from most Puma sneakers today. This branding mimics the smaller one on the heel. The lateral side, on the other hand, displays Puma Formstrip as branding.
Function-wise, the Puma Axis features two of the brand's known sneaker materials – an IMEVA midsole for a lightweight and comfortable ride and a SoftFoam insole for cushioned, long-lasting comfort.
The footwear industry has recently received an influx of retro sneakers that sneaker wearers, regardless of generation, continuously support and patronize. Because of such trends, brands like Puma have reintroduced several of their old-school classic models into the market. Puma, in particular, looks deep into its archive, pulls out comeback-worthy models, and redesigns these to suit the modern-day sneaker market.
One of these shoes is the Puma Axis. An old-school favorite among loyal Puma followers, the Puma Axis sneakers’ existence can be traced back to the early '90s as a popular pick for runners because of its lightweight construction and materials.
Recently, Puma reintroduced the Puma Axis as one of its lifestyle models that took inspirations from classic running shoes. This athletic kick is a modern reinterpretation of the original Axis. It features mesh and leather uppers, supportive IMEVA midsole for lightweight cushioning, SoftFoam insoles for cushy fit and feel, and durable rubber outsoles.
- Another version of the Puma Axis comes in a full synthetic leather upper instead of mesh. It is called the Puma Axis SL.
- There’s also a suede version called the Puma Axis Plus Suede. It is also referred to as the Puma Plus Axis SD.
