Who should buy
We believe the PUMA Suede Classic is a solid match for people who:
- want a timeless, understated sneaker to go with various outfits
- appreciate quality suede at an affordable price
- prefer firm, low-stack kicks to plush platforms

Who should NOT buy
We wouldn’t recommend the Suede Classic to people with wide feet or even folks with medium-width feet who can't stand narrow shoes. If toe room is the main concern, consider the adidas Gazelle, which is another minimalist suede-clad sneaker with a little more forefoot space.
And if you are concerned about breathability with this PUMA sneaker, the ASICS Skyhand OG proved highly effective at pulling sweat away from the skin.

Amortiguación
Shock absorption
We didn't expect much impact protection from a minimalist sneaker built on such a low platform, but the PUMA Suede Classic surprised us with a decent shock absorption measurement of 74 SA.
Sure, it's not enough to make the shoe comfortable for all-day wear, but it's still a little better cushioned than the adidas Samba OG (47 SA). That's because the Samba's sole is made of rubber only, and the Suede Classic packs a slab of foam inside the rubber to soften the blow of hard concrete.

| Media | 88 SA |
Energy return
With a low energy return of 48.1%, the ride of this PUMA sneaker doesn't feel particularly responsive. It offers a planted underfoot experience rather than a bouncy one.
| Suede Classic | 48.1% |

Altura de la suela en la zona del talón
The shoe's low-profile construction is also reflected in its below-average heel stack of 24.3 mm. It is on par with other popular minimalist sneakers, such as the Converse Chuck 70 Low Top and the adidas Stan Smith.

| Suede Classic | 24.3 mm |
| Media | 30.5 mm |
Altura de la suela en el antepié
With a moderate forefoot stack of 16.2 mm, the ball of the foot also sits quite low to the ground in this PUMA sneaker.

| Suede Classic | 16.2 mm |
| Media | 19.6 mm |
Drop
At 8.1 mm, the heel-to-toe drop is perfectly standard in the PUMA Suede Classic. It's not too low to put strain on the Achilles and calves, and not too high to make the platform feel too inclined.

| Suede Classic | 8.1 mm |
| Media | 10.9 mm |
Dureza de la mediasuela
The Suede Classic's rubber base offers a rather firm underfoot experience, but the presence of foam makes it a tad more forgiving.
It's not a plush foam by any means, but it is a balanced, moderately soft material with a durometer reading of 38.7 AC.

Anchura / Ajuste
The PUMA Suede Classic fits every bit as snug as its slim exterior suggests, and we have a gel cast to prove it.
Measuring the shoe's one-to-one replica at its widest point (ball-of-foot area), our caliper recorded only 87.5 mm, which is among the narrowest measurements for sneakers. It is a no-go for wide footers and might even feel too close-fitting for medium-width feet.

| Suede Classic | 87.5 mm |
| Media | 92.4 mm |
Anchura de la parte delantera
The shoe's narrow fit continues into an even narrower toebox, measuring only 65.0 mm at the big toe. This is also one of the slimmest results in our lab.

| Suede Classic | 65.0 mm |
| Media | 68.7 mm |
Altura de la parte delantera
At least the vertical space is not limited in this PUMA kick, adding no pressure on the toes.
With a toebox height of 28.3 mm, the Classic Suede offers ample room above the toes.

Tracción / Agarre
Traction test
With no grand promises of superior outsole grip, PUMA delivers reliable traction by default in the Suede Classic.
Recording the shoe's friction coefficient at an impressive 0.69, we can confirm that this kick will keep you slip-free even on wet sidewalks and slick stairs.

Diseño de la suela exterior
True to its original 1968 design, the PUMA Suede Classic carries the heritage grid-like tread pattern with a diamond-shaped texture.

Flexibilidad / Rigidez
A cupsole design with a suede upper can limit the shoe's pliability, but not so much in the Suede Classic.

The shoe requires a moderate force of 12.3N to bend by 30 degrees, which is just as much as it takes to bend the adidas Samba. We didn't experience any tangible restriction of natural foot bending in this PUMA silhouette.

Peso
With all that suede and rubber in its construction, it's hardly surprising that the PUMA Suede Classic isn't exactly a featherweight.
Although it's not the lightest shoe in our catalog, we found it to be on par with the sneaker average at 13.4 oz (380g). For reference, this is the same weight as we recorded in the Nike Air Max 90 and the Nike Air Max 1.

Estabilidad
Prueba de estabilidad lateral
A low-profile sneaker with a firm rubber base, the Suede Classic offers solid inherent stability that doesn't require extra supportive elements to prevent the foot from rolling over.
Rigidez torsional
Its minimalistic silhouette doesn't need to be sturdy and structured to keep the foot securely in place either. That's why we don't see its below-average torsional rigidity of 10.5 Nm as a point of concern.

| Suede Classic | 10.5 Nm |
| Media | 15.7 Nm |
Rigidez del contrafuerte del talón
However, the Suede Classic relies on a stiff heel counter to minimize unwanted rearfoot wobbling. Assessing its resistance in our manual test, we rated it with a high score of 4 out of 5.

Anchura de la mediasuela - antepié
Curiously, the platform of this PUMA sneaker is not as slim as that of similar low-profile sneakers. But it is still narrower than average, measuring 105.3 mm at the widest part of the forefoot.

| Suede Classic | 105.3 mm |
| Media | 108.9 mm |
Anchura de la mediasuela - talón
Its heel dimensions also fall on the narrow side, at only 75.9 mm at the widest point. However, this does not affect the shoe's stability, given its low, firm platform.

Durabilidad
Calidad de la piel o cuero / ante
The budget-friendly price of the PUMA Suede Classic can raise doubts about the quality of its suede, but luckily, our fire test dispelled that concern.

Exposing the shoe's upper to the flame of our butane torch for a few seconds, we watched the material char and crumble rather than melt, indicating that it's made of genuine suede rather than a synthetic imitation.
| Suede Classic | Ante auténtico |
Durabilidad de la parte delantera
The shoe's suede upper also proved its quality in our Dremel test, where it sustained only minor damage after 12 seconds of contact with sanding paper.
That earned this PUMA sneaker a high toebox durability score of 4 out of 5, promising solid long-term service.
| Suede Classic | 4 |

Durabilidad del acolchado del talón
The inner side of the shoe's tongue and collar is lined with soft synthetic leather, which also showed excellent wear resistance in our Dremel test.
As a result, this PUMA shoe's heel padding durability scored a high 4 out of 5 as well.
| Suede Classic | 4 |
| Media | 3.2 |
Durabilidad de la suela
Finally, there is nothing cheap about the rubber cupsole of the Suede Classic either. The material resisted our demanding durability test like a pro, leaving a shallow dent of 1.3 mm.

And with a solid 4.3 mm of rubber, we can expect lasting durability even at the shoe's moderate price point.

Comodidad
Breathability
Wrapped in suede from heel to toe, the PUMA Suede Classic isn't exactly built for summer heat.
None of the smoke we pumped into the sneaker managed to pass through its dense toebox, lowering breathability to a minimum of 1 out of 5.

Acolchado de la lengüeta
As you can easily tell from this PUMA shoe's silhouette, it's not exactly a plush sneaker, offering only essential interior padding.

Our caliper showed that its tongue is 6.5 mm thick, which is only enoug for basic protection from lace pressure.

| Suede Classic | 6.5 mm |

Some tongue sliding is possible with this PUMA sneaker, as it has no tongue gussets.
