Asics Gel Spotlyte History
When most people hear the brand name Asics, a running shoe is what first comes to their minds since the brand has always been synonymous with such type of footwear. However, the brand was also recognized for its basketball shoes back in the day, and one of these is the Asics Gel Spotlyte.
The Asics Gel Spotlyte first released in 1992 as a signature shoe of professional basketball star and Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas. Together with Thomas, Asics came up with a lower and lighter basketball shoe for the smaller and quicker basketball players on the court. Such characteristics made the Asics Gel Spotlyte the perfect "guard shoe" for the point guard superstar.
Obtained from the Asics archive, the Gel Spotlyte was re-introduced as a retro model in 2014 with the original silhouette details such as the sponge collar padding and the large brand logo retained.
