Asics Gel Sight History
Japanese athletic company Asics was the official sponsor of the Japan Olympic Committee in 1992. The Asics Gel-Sight was released at that time. These training shoes were used by the Land of the Rising Sun's national team in preparation for the summer games, which was to be held in Barcelona of that same year. Initially intended to be a Japan-only release, the Gel Sight eventually went global.
In the recent years, people have seen various renditions, colorways and even collaborations of this sneaker. The likes of New York clothing-slash-footwear designer and fashion label owner Ronnie Fieg had his take on the sporty silhouette. Overkill and Monkey Time also had a collaboration with the Japanese athletic label.
Asics continues the reissues of this classic sneaker.
Asics Gel Sight Style
The Gel Sight from Asics looks fantastic when matched with various summer outfits. The pair goes well with jeans and shorts. Users who are confident with their street style may choose to wear a hoodie. Because of its sporty appeal, this is a sneaker that should be a solid part of an active person’s rotation, both as a casual shoe and as a shoe for training.
Fit & Sizing
The Asics Gel Sight offers good fit for those with average foot measurement. The pair has a wide range of sizes. The men’s sizes are from 4 to 14 while the women’s is from 5.5 to 11. A snug fit is provided by the lace-up closure. For those who need more than a little support and structure in the heel the huge heel stabilizer will be an indispensable feature.
There are a couple of different features that are quite very notable in the Gel Sight. And, none is more apparent and prominent than the heel stabilizer. Besides giving the shoe a very distinctive feature it also adds a very reliable and light support and structure in the heel. In some of the collaborations, this element of the shoe is used as a very distinguishing part of the shoe.
Another exceptional feature of the shoe is the Gel Wave that is a part of the heel for added lightweight support and shock-absorbing properties. Asics also puts a stylistic spin on the Sight by making this silicon-based Gel technology visible in the outsole.
- Asics took its inspiration from the Running of the Bulls event in Spain to create the Bulls of Pamplona pack. Both the GEL Lyte V and GEL Sight were reworked in deep black and bright red colorway. Both models were sold in limited quantities in late 2016.
- The silhouette was resurrected in 2015. One colorway was created to honor the Olympic games. The Atlantic and Pacific models were reintroduced to the sneaker market by Ronnie Fieg as part of the West Coast Project. Los Angeles and New York were the inspirations of these models. Several colorways were released afterward.
- The gel material can be seen through a window found on the outsole.
- A commemorative version of the Asics Gel Sight is offered in the gold colorway. It has the World Challenger Tongue that was seen in the original shoe used by the Japanese Olympic Team.
