Asics Gel Circuit History
Asics introduced a compact jelly-like material during the 1980s called Asics Gel produced by the Geltec, Ltd. Unlike the air-cushioning chamber introduced by Nike that’s filled with inert gas, the gel unit is firmly lodged into the midsole made of EVA. This wonder tool was created to shield the feet in motion from blows and impacts and dispel vibration away from the feet. The encapsulated semi-fluid substance also extends the lifespan of the midsole.
The strength of the Gel technology was first seen in the drop of the Freaks jogging shoe in 1986. It is also called Gran Turismo or GT-II in other markets outside Japan. In 1991, this sports company gave emphasis not only on the Asics Gel-cushioning unit but the overall comfort of the shoe and started releasing models not only for running but other sports activities as well.
It was also on the same year that it came out with the Asics Gel Circuit, a shoe inspired by the 1985 Lawnship Kobe tennis kick. The Gel Circuit, built for enhanced movement and flexibility on the court, was dropped in time for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.
In 2018, the brand came up with a retro model outfitted with immaculate white full-grain leather and accentuated by the Asics Tiger stripes on the sides outlined in Directoire Blue. Just like its original makeup, this shoe features the signature Gel cushioning. A couple of other colorways were released in the coming months such as White/Burgundy, White/Black, White/White, and Marzipan/Marzipan.
Asics Gel Circuit Style
Obtain a retro sportswear Asics Gel sneaker equipped with a calf leather cover, a style that initially found traction on the sand-filled artificial grass courts. Now garbed with a street-ready look in a lighter build, the Asics Gel Circuit carries the same old-school charm smartened up by bright color accents on the tiger stripes, collar, tongue, heel, and outsole. This unisex tennis-inspired sneaker gives your straight jeans, cargos, joggers, and shorts a throwback feel.
Fit & Sizing
The low-top Gel Circuit comes with uniquely designed eyestays that grant an adjustable and customized fitting. It comes with extra lace holes called heel locks that give users the option to tighten up the shoelaces for a more lockdown feel. This feature also prevents the heel from slipping and developing blisters. The EVA cushioning bed with the proprietary Gel shock-absorption unit on the rear side delivers comfort and support. This unisex Asics casual sneaker is offered in men’s 5.5/women’s 7 to men’s 13/ women’s 14.5 US.
The giveaway feature on this 1990s-inspired court shoe that’s popular among men and women is the trademark Asics Gel cushioning system that provides impact protection on the heel side. This Gel Circuit shoe has lace locks that help tighten the fit for a more comfy walking experience. The pop of color around this kick gives it a rich vintage flavor.
