Adidas Stan Smith Boost History

In 1965, Horst Dassler designed a tennis shoe for the world’s best player, the Frenchman Robert Haillet. It has the 3-Stripe perforations which made it different from the other Adidas models. 6 years later, due to Haillet’s retirement, Horst commissioned Stan Smith, another tennis superstar, to represent Adidas in tennis. Horst made some fine tuning to make it a little different from the Haillet’s. It is a full white leather lace-up sneaker with an image and signature of Smith on the tongue and Smith’s full name on the shoe heel.

The simplicity of the Stan Smith made it so classic and powerful that it became so popular. In 1988, 2 million pairs of Stan Smith were sold around the globe. In 2012, Adidas made one major decision, they terminated the production of Stan Smith pairs due to congestion in the market. Two years off the rack, the Adidas Stan Smith made a huge comeback in 2014. Countless of collaborations and different versions of Stan Smith are being introduced to the public. It remains clear that the Stan Smith has no plans of stopping its spectacular upswing in the market.

Meanwhile, the BOOST Technology was launched to counter Nike’s Air Max in 2015. It is basically made of TPU granules and molded into energy filled capsules creating a Styrofoam profile in the midsole. It has undergone countless temperature-sensitive tests which conclude that BOOST is much more resistant to heat compared to the traditional EVA material, thus highest energy return to the runner for a more consistent run.

The Boost has been used in various sneakers like the well-celebrated Yeezys and other off-court pairs. This futuristic pair has been dubbed by fans to be the most comfortable sole unit in the market. The Boost has effortlessly boosted the Adidas into a completely new domain.

What makes Stan Smith popular to many wearers is that its hallmark look remained unchanged for 40 years.  In recent years, Adidas played with Stan Smith’s core silhouette using a variety of patterns, fabrics and color combinations. Early this year, Adidas introduced another version of the Stan Smith with the Boost sole treatment. They just fused their best-selling shoe with their best-selling sole, displaying a perfect balance of heritage appeal with a contemporary technology.

Adidas Stan Smith Boost Style

Since the 70s, the Stan Smith has been able to seamlessly cross the court to the street fashion. It became an iconic pair for its simplicity and clean silhouette. The updated version released early in 2017 called the Stan Smith Boost has, once again, made a big mark in the market.  Despite the update, the original shape of the Stan Smith was retained. The Boost makeover is so subtle that sometimes people might not notice the changes.

This modern-day makeover offers a very comfortable and maximized energy return to its wearer. Constructed  with a very flexible and soft leather upper, which further delivers comfort, the shoe is suitable for all-day walking.  Adidas finishes this pair off with the iconic perforated 3-Stripe and Stan Smith on the tongue and heel patch to add a more casual vibe. The majority of the users shared that this pair is very versatile that it can be worn with any casual or even semi-formal guise. Jeans, khakis or slacks with tees, while some ladies pair this with dress for a spunky look.

Fit & Sizing

The Adidas Stan Smith Boost has a slightly padded collar and tongue with leather inner lining. It exhibits a traditional lace up closure system for a secure fit. The heel tab is present, which aids the wearers in putting on this pair. The midsole is made of the high-tech Boost which helps the wearers to maximize the energy return with every stride for a much more responsive ride. The Adidas Stan Smith Boost generally runs true to size. It is being offered in men and women sizes in medium width. Men can choose from sizes 4 to 16 while women have sizes 6 to 15 US.

Notable Features

The most notable feature of the Adidas Stan Smith Boost is the perforated iconic 3-Stripe branding on the sides of the shoe. This trait is the hallmark feature of the Stan Smith line, along with the branding on the heel tab patch and on the tongue.

Although it is almost physically negligible, the Boost midsole makes this pair different from the other Stan Smith variations. The Boost has been seen in other Adidas’ models like the Yeezys. This modern technology helps the wearers to achieve a maximized energy return resulting in a more consistent ride.
