Profile of the Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 3.0 Clay

Who is it good for? Given its premium-grade quality, this trainer is apt for mid-level and elite players who perform on top speed and agility on clay. Its foot-hugging bootie structure that's meant to cinch down the foot even during extensive training and tourney is a clincher for users eyeing for a stable footgear with lightly built components.

Adidas Adizero Ubersonic 3.0 Clay Upper

Highlights and benefits:

  • has a tongue-less upper molded to the shape of the foot that limits dirt particles from entering the shoe
  • assembled with a textile upper that's toughened by strong plastic-coated fibers for firmness and durability
  • supported by a responsive midsole with a midfoot plate that works as a stabilizer
  • fortified by a solid clay-oriented rubber compound that addresses traction

Outsole

Solid rubber compound. Like the all-court Ubersonic 3.0 trainer, this footgear is equipped with a durable Adiwear 6 base. This rubber compound with tough-wearing properties is attached right below the midsole and drawn out from heel to toe and over the lateral side and the tip of the shoe. The extended coverage puts more life to such areas of the shoe most susceptible to wear.

Non-marking tread. Compared to the all-court iteration, this variation features a deep herringbone tread that leaves no mark on the clay surface. Such a tread pattern is designed to promptly dislodge dirt between the grooves to allow the shoe to grip on clay even as the player bursts off shot after shot.

Midsole

Shock-absorbing properties. The entire section right above the outsole is made of polyurethane (PU). The entire slab that's elastic as plastic and durable as rubber is responsible for reducing impact as the foot strikes the ground, Unlike the standard compression-molded EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate), this PU cushioning material appears to be heavier and denser.

Added forefoot cushioning. Lodged right below the forefoot is the rubberlike Adiprene cushioning unit. It works as an added protection that dampens the shock and reduces stress under the ball of the foot. The Adiprene's springy potential gives the foot the propulsive power to launch forward during toe-offs.

Supportive plate. Two technologies are incorporated into the midsole for stability and pronation control, the 3D Torsion System and Sprintframe. The three-dimensional torsion control device is a lightweight support system that resists improper curving of the arch when tackling off-angled shots. To keep the foot firmly planted on the ground especially during quick cuts and break-neck sprints, Adidas added the Sprintframe chassis. This midfoot bridge keeps the foot close to the ground and fabricated to grant balance and support.

Upper

Rigid fiber component. The sock-like upper is composed of a lightweight net mesh that promotes breathability. Durable Dyneema yarn is intertwined into the textile fibers to increase the capability of the shoe to handle the pressure and provide stability during multi-directional movements.

Forefoot reinforcement. Abrasion-resistant Adituff material is added to the medial side and tip of the shoe to reinforce these high-wear sections.

Nice to know

  • Dyneema fibers, which are interwoven and melded between layers of polyester film, offers additional strength to the upper. Such a super-tough component is used in creating military garments too.
  • The Adidas Adizero Club and Defiant Bounce shoes are cheaper variations, which also come in lightweight and stable structures.
