Who should buy
We think that the KEEN Jasper Zionic is a strong match for people who:
- want a sneaker with a climbing shoe aesthetic (suede upper, tongue-to-toe lacing)
- mix city walking with light trails, gravel paths, and easy forest trails
- prefer good shock absorption with a rockered ride

Who should NOT buy
The Jasper Zionic's outdoorsy appearance can be deceiving, but it is not a proper hiking shoe for demanding trails. For serious adventures, we recommend the brand's Targhee IV or the Roam.
If you want to stick to gorpcore sneakers for streetwear, but need a more breathable, summer-ready alternative, the Salomon XT-6 is an unbeatable icon.
A less technical-looking but more comfortable and cushioned city-to-trail option is the HOKA Transport 2.

Amortiguación
Shock absorption
Built on the same platform as the brand's popular Zionic hiking shoe, the KEEN Jasper Zionic offers a pleasantly cushioned ride that remains comfortable for hours on end. Registering a shock absorption of 119 SA, the shoe's impact protection proved solid enough to earn it a spot in our catalog of comfortable sneakers.

Energy return
While there is certainly no lack of cushioning in this KEEN shoe, its midsole foam isn't particularly responsive.
With a low energy return of only 45%, the Jasper Zionic feels flat and even somewhat dull underfoot. But on the bright side, it will please wearers who prefer a stable and planted experience.

| Media | 50.0% |
Altura de la suela en la zona del talón
The shoe's rugged outsole raises its stack height slightly above the category average. It's not overly tall at 35.3 mm, but there is a substantial amount of underfoot material to buffer the foot from hard ground and minor trail obstacles.

| Jasper Zionic | 35.3 mm |
| Media | 30.6 mm |
Altura de la suela en el antepié
Its forefoot stack is also slightly thicker than average at 22.6 mm, but not enough to make the foot feel isolated.

| Jasper Zionic | 22.6 mm |
| Media | 19.6 mm |
Drop
The shoe's heel-to-toe drop, therefore, comes in at 12.7 mm, which is on the steeper side of casual sneakers.
This creates a noticeably inclined platform, which could be annoying for people who are used to a flatter offset. But on the bright side, it can benefit wearers with limited ankle mobility or tight calves.

| Jasper Zionic | 12.7 mm |
| Media | 11.0 mm |
Dureza de la mediasuela
Although its ride cannot be described as pillowy-plush, the KEEN Jasper Zionic has enough midsole compression to provide a comfortable experience.
Pressing a durometer against the shoe's midsole foam, we recorded a below-average reading of 39.7 AC. About 20% softer than the average sneaker foam, its cushioning feels as balanced as that of the New Balance 990 v6.

| Jasper Zionic | 39.7 AC |
| Media | 49.8 AC |
Rocker
Its pronounced toe rocker and heel bevel help make the Jasper Zionic's ride more fluid and rolling. We found it particularly smooth on concrete city streets and light hard-packed trails.

Anchura / Ajuste
With its climbing-inspired upper and Contoured Fit, we had every reason to anticipate a snug experience in the KEEN Jasper Zionic.
But when we created a gel cast of its interiors and measured its dimensions with a caliper, we found the shoe no tighter than the average sneaker.
Showing 93.2 mm in the widest part of the forefoot, it falls squarely within the medium-width range.

| Jasper Zionic | 93.2 mm |
| Media | 92.5 mm |
Anchura de la parte delantera
The gel cast didn't show any aggressive toebox tapering either. Showing 71.4 mm of width in the big toe area, it strikes a nice middle ground for toe space.

| Jasper Zionic | 71.4 mm |
| Media | 68.8 mm |
Altura de la parte delantera
The shoe's vertical fit didn't raise any concerns either.
With a toebox height of 27.7 mm, it didn't restrict the toes, even with the mudguard and the tongue-to-toe lacing on top of them.

Tracción / Agarre
Traction test
Coming from an outdoor-focused brand, the Jasper Zionic couldn't afford to slip up in our traction test. And, fortunately, it didn't!
Measuring the shoe's friction coefficient on a wet concrete slab, we were pleased to record a solid CoF of 0.61. Notably grippier than the average lifestyle sneaker, it delivers traction more akin to that of hiking shoes!
It kept us surefooted on slick pavement, subway tiles, and stone stairs, among other tricky urban surfaces.

Diseño de la suela exterior
At the bottom of this KEEN shoe, we can see a moderately aggressive tread pattern with oval, 4-mm deep lugs.
While this design is not aggressive enough for any serious trail use, we can confirm that it inspires confidence on light dirt, gravel, and hard-packed forest trails.

Flexibilidad / Rigidez
In addition to its rockered midsole geometry, the KEEN Jasper Zionic promotes natural heel-to-toe transitions through its relatively pliable forefoot.

At 11.2N, the shoe requires 17% less force to bend than the average sneaker, making it easy to flex the foot naturally.

| Media | 13.5N |
Peso
Even with its burly appearance and all-suede upper, the KEEN Jasper Zionic still weighs less than average for a sneaker. At 12.5 oz (354g), it is actually on par with the adidas Handball Spezial!

Estabilidad
Prueba de estabilidad lateral
Stemming from outdoor footwear, the Jasper Zionic brings hiking shoe stability to the streets.
Our lab tests confirmed that it delivers rock-solid lateral stability, keeping undesirable foot shifting and wobbling to a minimum.
Rigidez torsional
With its raised midsole sidewalls and a stiff stability shank, this KEEN shoe has enough backbone to make it twistproof. At 17.2 Nm, it takes a considerable torque to twist it even by 10 degrees!

| Jasper Zionic | 17.2 Nm |
| Media | 15.9 Nm |
Rigidez del contrafuerte del talón
Applying pressure to the shoe's heel counter in our manual test, we found some solid resistance as well.
But because it's not so unforgivingly rigid, we lowered our stiffness score to a moderate 3 out of 5. The shoe holds the heel in place without putting too much pressure on the ankle.
| Jasper Zionic | 3 |
| Media | 3.2 |
Anchura de la mediasuela - antepié
A broad surface area further enhances the Jasper Zionic's lateral stability. In the broadest part of the forefoot, its midsole measured 116.6 mm, which is considerably wider than average.

| Jasper Zionic | 116.6 mm |
| Media | 109.0 mm |
Anchura de la mediasuela - talón
The shoe's heel also showed fairly broad dimensions, measuring 96.6 mm at its widest point. Wider than average, its heel base provides a stable landing area, helping prevent unwanted foot rolling.

Durabilidad
Calidad de la piel o cuero / ante
Putting the Jasper Zionic's upper to the test with our butane torch, we found convincing evidence that KEEN uses genuine suede. The material showed no melting or bubbling, but charred, and its topmost layer crumbled into ash under the needle.
Additionally, the brand also claims to use an environmentally preferred premium leather from an LWG-certified tannery, adding a welcome touch of environmental accountability.

Durabilidad de la parte delantera
To avoid premature deterioration of its suede upper, KEEN added a durable mudguard to the Jasper Zionic's toebox perimeter. It proved to be amazingly hard-wearing in our demanding durability test, where we sanded it for 12 seconds.
This earned the shoe's toebox durability a perfect score of 5/5!
| Jasper Zionic | 5 |
| Media | 3.7 |
Durabilidad del acolchado del talón
Unfortunately, the shoe's inner mesh lining didn't fare nearly as well, tearing almost instantly upon contact with our Dremel. That lowered our heel padding durability score to only 2 out of 5.

Durabilidad de la suela
The shoe's rubber outsole, however, inspired plenty of confidence, showing only a minor dent of 0.8 mm after 22 seconds of vigorous drilling.
| Jasper Zionic | 0.8 mm |

Grosor de la suela
And with a generous 6.8 mm of abrasion-resistant rubber, it's hard to imagine this KEEN shoe wearing through its entire outsole anytime soon.

Comodidad
Breathability test
The suede upper of this KEEN sneaker offers little ventilation, making it less appealing for hot summer days.
With no mesh inserts or perforations, its breathability is quite limited, as seen in our smoke-pumping test above.

| Jasper Zionic | 2 |
| Media | 2.8 |
Acolchado de la lengüeta
Similar to climbing shoes, the collar and tongue are very minimally padded in the Jasper Zionic.

Showing only 3.8 mm on our caliper, its tongue offers just a touch of buffer against lace pressure.

| Jasper Zionic | 3.8 mm |
| Media | 9.7 mm |
Lengüeta: tipo de refuerzo
The shoe's tongue is non-gusseted, which means that it may be prone to bunching up or shifting sideways during wear.

Grosor de la plantilla
The Jasper Zionic's insole is not just another flimsy piece of foam. At 6.0 mm in the heel, it is a well-padded layer made of resilient foam that also provides some arch support.

The insole is also removable and can be swapped for another over-the-counter insert or orthotic.

Even though it's inspired by outdoor shoes, the KEEN Jasper Zionic showed no reflective elements in our dark room test.

Precio
We believe that KEEN offers a fair package in the Jasper Zionic, mixing a reliable hiking-shoe-inspired base with a durable, high-quality suede upper at a slightly above-average MSRP of €150.
