The La Sportiva Eclipse GTX is an ankle-supportive piece capable of aiding wearers on their backpacking adventures come rain or shine. It is built with the 3D Flex System—a company-owned tech that gives users more control and precision over steep terrain.
The boot’s rockered sole unit promises protection and surefootedness on a variety of terrain. It consists of an extra-stiff yet cushy midsole and a sticky outsole courtesy of Vibram.
La Sportiva’s Eclipse GTX is a relatively true-to-size, high-top backpacking boot for men and women. It is offered in full and half sizes. It comes in standard width. Owners may get a dialed-in fit in it via the shoe’s differentiated lacing system.
This weatherproof hiking boot provides sufficient slip and skid resistance with its Vibram XS Trek outsole. Aggressive multi-directional lugs are scattered across its surface, generating ample grip in practically every angle. It is engineered with La Sportiva’s IBS system—a technology that improves the lugs’ braking power by about 20%. It also reduces impact forces by roughly 20%
The Eclipse GTX’s injection-molded midsole is what grants underfoot comfort and ground stability over uneven terrain. Its entirety is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate, a synthetic, foam-like material that is characterized by high flexibility and resilience. Since it has a segmented construction, this component gets to provide outdoorsy folks with extra springiness during transitions. It also comes with a polypropylene stiffener (with a thickness of 2 millimeters) for additional support and protection.
Nestled right on top of this comfy yet protective layer is the boot’s 4-mm thick Ortholite insole. Aside from cushioning, this removable footbed also doubles down on support underfoot.
Roughout leather makes up the majority of the Eclipse GTX’s high-cut upper. It is wrapped with a protective rand and toe cap made of Vibram rubber. The liner that gives it adequate breathability and waterproofing is called Gore-Tex Extended Comfort (also seen in Salomon’s Quest 4D 3 GTX and Danner’s Mountain Light II).
Its combination eyelets consist of leather lace tunnels and a pair of plated eyelets at the instep and open hooks at the cuff. Their utility comes in full circle with the shoe’s synthetic lace.
