KEEN has gained a solid reputation not only for the quality and comfort of its footwear but also for its hassle-free sizing.
Do KEENs run true-to-size?
Although it’s never guaranteed 100%, KEEN footwear does a pretty good job fitting as expected. The brand follows a rather straightforward US sizing scheme in which the interval between full sizes is 10 mm.
Still, our feet are all unique in their shapes and they also keep growing and changing over time (even past childhood). That’s why it is essential to have your feet measured at least once a year. It’s much easier than it seems. Follow our 3-step guide to help you.

How KEEN boots, shoes, and sandals fit
KEEN itself gives a few important recommendations when it comes to the fit of its footwear. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
- Shoes and boots with the eVent and KEEN.Dry membranes tend to have less volume in the toebox, so it may be necessary to get half-size bigger.
- Expect a snugger fit in trail running shoes and hiking footwear and a more accommodating one in shoes and boots for urban trekking.
You can learn more about each KEEN shoe, boot, or sandal in our comprehensive lab reviews. We measure each KEEN product's internal length and toebox dimensions to give you a better idea of their fit and sizing.

Original fit vs. Contoured fit
Although both variants are made to fit snugly in the heel and midfoot, the Original fit offers more space in the forefoot as compared to the Contoured fit.
We highly recommend that people with wide feet and bunions opt for the Original fit. Even folks with medium-width feet will benefit from the ability to splay toes in these roomy shoes.
According to the brand, you will find the Original fit in KEEN Newport sandals as well as in the KEEN Targhee hiking shoes.
Wide widths in KEEN
Even though the majority of KEEN models come in a regular Medium width, some have been released in the Wide version as well. Filter our catalogue pages by Width to find out which options are currently available in Wide.
TIP#1: Ladies can get a men's KEEN shoe/boot if they need a wider width. For example, men's US size 7 is going to feel like women's US 8.5 but in a D Wide width.
TIP#2: If you are looking for KEEN sandals that accommodate wider feet, choose the ones with bungee laces. This elastic closure is easy to regulate and it helps to cover broader feet. Here are some KEEN sandals with bungee laces.
KEEN vs. Merrell, Oboz, and Teva
Another great thing about KEEN is that its sizing scheme is mostly consistent with the size charts of other popular outdoor brands such as Merrell, Salomon, and Columbia.
