  • 98 / 100 | Gearist

The Eriksson GTX from Vasque is all of the above on top of being one of the best looking boots I’ve seen.

  • 100 / 100 | Active Gear Review

This is a true champion amongst the hiking boots I have had the pleasure to test and wear. This will tackle the toughest of hikes, and is a perfect match for a long backpacking trip into the mountains.

  • 100 / 100 | Wilderness

The Eriksson GTX is a boot that is suited to all but the hardest trans-alpine tramping trips.

  • The Vasque Eriksson GTX’s earthy look is thanks in large part to its full-grain leather shell. It has a slightly higher collar for more ankle support. It is also engineered with Gore-Tex’s Performance Comfort technology, making it amply waterproof.
  • It is equipped with a Vasque-exclusive sole unit called Vibram Summit. Apart from its stabilizing midsole and grippy outsole, this unified sole component also features the TPU torsion control chassis.

Vasque’s Eriksson GTX is a mid-cut backpacking boot for men and women. It fairly runs true to size. It is offered in wide and standard widths and listed in a decent number of half and whole sizes. Its lacing system, which features the locking ankle hook, grants trekkers a secure fit.

Based on the XS Trek compound, the Vibram Summit outsole gets to provide users ample traction over unpredictable terrain, whether wet or dry. Its twisty high-profile lugs grant grip in practically every direction. Its grid-like pattern at the heel and forefoot, on the other hand, offers adequate ascent and descent assistance. There is also the outsole’s forefoot extension that serves as the boot’s shield against frontal bumps.

The main platform of the Vasque Eriksson GTX’s three-part midsole is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Its heel cup with EVA shock pad is made of polyurethane, while its torsion control chassis is made of TPU or thermoplastic polyurethane. The entire unit delivers cushioning like that of an athletic shoe and stability.

For additional comfort underfoot, the gear comes with a dual-density EVA footbed. Its type of build cushions the foot at key points during transitions.

The Vasque Eriksson GTX has a 2.2-millimeter thick, waterproof full-grain leather upper. Its main bootie is engineered with the Gore-Tex Performance Comfort liner for breathability and waterproofing. Its tongue has a seamless construction for debris protection, while its ankle cuff is padded with PU foam for added comfort. At its base is a strip of durable rubber, protecting the front profile of the boot from abrasions.

Getting a secure lockdown is via the boot’s speed lacing system. It allows for quick configurations thanks to its open hooks and roller eyelets.
