I highly recommend it. It's the best winter boot that I've ever used.
I had high hopes for the Vasque Coldsparks when I started the break-in process, but after 50 miles of early winter hiking through snow, ice, wet leaves, slush, and rain, they’re going to be relegated to use in town, not forest and crag.
As long as you use and not abuse the Vasque Coldspark, there is no reason why it shouldn’t last at least a few seasons.
I’ve only had these boots for a very short time and have been impressed with the overall comfort and light weight they offer.
The ColdSpark UltraDry boot from Vasque successfully toes the thin line between comfort and function, leaving my feet warm and dry, while allowing me to travel easily in various winter conditions.
- The Vasque Coldspark UltraDry is a lightweight footgear designed for adventurers who enjoy hiking and snowshoeing in the winter. Its warming capability is courtesy of 3M’s insulating technology, called Thinsulate.
- Allowing for comfortable toe offs is the boot’s rockered sole unit. It is primarily comprised of a stabilizing midsole made of EVA and Vasque’s winter-ready Monolith outsole.
Vasque’s Coldspark UltraDry is a mid-cut, generally true-to-size winter hiking gear for men and women. It is offered in full and half sizes in regular width. Since it is built around the Perpetuum last, this boot has a more spacious toe box and a kind of alignment that flat-footed individuals will find accommodating. Its speed lace-up closure grants fit personalization, while its pull tab and molded rubber heel kick expedite on and off.
Granting winter hikers adequate surface traction on the trail is the Coldspark UltraDry’s Monolith outsole. It is based on the dual-density ColdHold compound, giving it the capability to produce enough grip on slick and snowy surfaces. The multi-directional lugs engineered along its perimeter allow the foot to hold its ground over uneven terrain.
This Vasque boot gets to provide ample ground stability and cushioning with its molded EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate) midsole. At its midsection is an embedded shank made of thermoplastic polyurethane for added underfoot support and stability.
Helping the midsole deliver even more comfort is the boot’s removable footbed. It has a cupped design for extra support and perforations for breathability.
The Coldspark UltraDry’s breathable upper is a combination of waterproof PU-coated leather (with a thickness of 1.8 mm) and softshell textile. It comes imbued with two essential technologies: Vasque UltraDry and Thinsulate by 3M. The former promotes breathability while keeping the entire gear waterproof, while the latter—as its name suggests—equips the boot with 200 g of thermal insulation. Over at its heel is a molded TPU yolk for additional rearfoot support. Its collar is lined with fleece for added comfort.
Completing this winter hiker’s upper is its quick closure system. It is made up of flat laces and three different kinds of eyelets—D-rings, opens hooks, and lace tunnels. The pair of D-rings at the end of the eyestay allows wearers to lock their snow gaiters in place.
