Vans SK8-Hi Del Pato MTE History

The first high-top skateboarding shoe, the Vans SK8-Hi was first introduced in the year 1978 and was then called as the “Style 38.” The silhouette displays the signature Vans side stripe that was previously known as the “Jazz Stripe.” The design of the shoe was to protect the ankle from common skateboarding injuries.

The shoe then gained popularity among skateboarding enthusiasts with its functionality, additional protection, and stylish design. The silhouette also provides more surface area allowing the people to put their creativity and art on display through simply dragging the tip of their pens on their pair of SK8-Hi and personalize it, which then led to the start of the Vans Custom program.

The SK8-Hi silhouette also encountered different variations from its colorways to the materials used and technologies applied to it. The Vans SK8-Hi Del Pato MTE, being an iteration of the classic SK8-Hi, is a duck boot-inspired silhouette that features the All-Weather MTE technology that protects the foot from different elements.
