Vans Black Sole Authentic History

Vans has been a household name since its introduction in the 60s due to its founder's deep-rooted passion for family and a then new-found inclination for skateboarding. With a strong dedication to their craft, Paul and Jim Van Doren brought two of their loved ones to California: shoes and family. From their Boston home base, the two along with their friend Gordon Lee had not yet realized that the workings of a long-lasting company were embedded in their fate. Decades have passed, and subsequent generations of the Van Dorens kept the fire burning for the plimsoll brand.

It was on March 16, 1966, when our protagonists decided to set up shop on E. Broadway street in Anaheim, California and decided to call themselves the Van Doren Rubber Company. The company's initial setup was to manufacture the chosen style of the sneaker on the same day. Customers can select the style they desire in the morning and would pick them up in the afternoon. This scenario went on until in the same year, they presented the Style #44 or nowadays most commonly known as the "Authentic" brand.

The Authentic shares the company's establishment year and with its rich timeline had already been revamped into numerous colorways. Some of the designs were popular enough to continue to resurface on retail stores while some were so rare that only one or two people hold. Different plays on colors, whether on the canvas upper or the sole were released throughout the years. A perfect example of this would be the Vans Black Sole Authentic which has a smooth vulcanized black sole which comes with black laces.

Vans Black Sole Authentic Style

The black color of the sneaker's sole serves as a low profile outline which deviates from the standard white vulcanized sole. The black laces and eyelets balance the dominant hue of the sole and are coupled by an interior drenched in the same black tint. The sandwiching tones of the low top sneaker make the canvas upper pop to be noticed by bystanders. Dressing up or down is always an acceptable notion for the Vans Authentic as it blends well with almost any article of clothing.

Fit & Sizing

The low top Vans Black Sole Authentic is constructed in a true to size form thus sticking to one's usual size is preferred. Customizing the fit can be done by loosening or snugging the lace-up enclosure. It is a medium width unisex sneaker ranging from 3.5 to 13 including half sizes but follows the labeling of men's sizes. Women are advised to go down 1 1/2 sizes from the men.

Notable Features

The identifying features of the sneaker are its unmistakable glossy black sole paralleled by black laces and metal eyelets. The lining is also black which is carried on to the footbed with a Vans branding.

Additional Info

  • Vans brandings can be seen on the vamp flag, tongue, and the heel.
  • The sole is manufactured in a standard vulcanized construction with a patented waffle pattern on the rubber outsole for traction and enhanced boardfeel.
  • The outsole is even splattered in black.
