The Under Armour Lightning 4 is an on-court performer that features the critically acclaimed Micro G technology in the midsole. To provide the necessary stability for quick movements, the outsole is made of injection-molded rubber that features both the herringbone and spider web patterns. To ensure comfort and breathability, the upper is made of lightweight textile with protective overlays wherever necessary.

Cushion. The midsole of the Under Armour Lightning 4 features the well-loved Micro G technology. It effectively cushions hard landings and returns energy for explosive takeoffs to the basket. Complementing the Micro G’s effectiveness is an insole that is made of die-cut EVA that  provides not only plush underfoot cushioning but also reliable motion support.

Traction. The outsole of the UA Lightning 4 is made of durable rubber that went through the injection molding process. A large part of the sole features the spider web pattern; the lateral sides go true to tradition and stick with the classic herringbone. The spider web pattern also extends up to sides of the midsole to deliver a multiangular grip. Both patterns provide multidirectional support.

Length and Width. There is a good number of short reviews on this shoe but none of them talk about issues with size. Given this, it’s safe to assume that the Lightning 4 shoes from Under Armour fit true to size. However, whenever it’s possible, it’s still best to try the shoe on before  purchasing.

Lockdown. To keep the foot locked down, this shoe has a webbed loop lacing system that basically works like Nike Flywire. When the laces are tightened, the webbed loops on the sides also grasp the foot better, ensuring stability. Wearers have the option to extend the laces up to the tongue if they want a more secure fit. Speaking of the tongue, it is molded to ensure a more stable fit.

Under Armour says that the Lightning 4’s upper is made of a lightweight textile that ensures not only a one-to-one fit but also breathability. The toe cap is stylistically overlaid with a protective material.

The textile upper of the Under Armour Lightning 4 is covered with a net like material. This gives the shoe it’s unique appearance. It also shields the webbed loops from unwanted physical disturbances that may cause them to loosen or get entangled.

The sides of the midsole features the same spider web pattern found on the most part of the outsole. This further characterizes the shoe.

The iconic Under Armour logo sits prominently on the tongue, the rear lateral side, and the outsole.

The UA Lightning 4 is sold in the following colors:

  • Black/Black
  • Midnight Navy/Midnight Navy
  • Red/Black
  • Team Royal/Team Royal
  • White/Black
  • White/Overcast Grey
