Who should NOT buy it

If you prefer cloud-like bouncy cushioning, like the Adidas Boost or Nike Zoom, you probably won't find this model appealing. Although this kick feels cushy, it offers just enough softness, not too much, that you can still feel the surface. You may consider checking skate-inspired kicks, like Adidas 3ST.004 or Nike SB Shane, as these are known for their responsive cushioning without any irritating popping sound.

Vans EVDNT UltimateWaffle: Clean, cool, trendy

This sneaker is one of the first "all-new Vans" we've seen in ages. Displaying an updated version of the Old Skool, a "futuristic take on a classic Vans," this modern-looking kick features a unique knit mesh upper, icey rubber midsole, and one-off Sidestripe branding, which many described as "cool futuristic" and "uniquely modern."

"A $100 shoe that looks like $700," a satisfied user gushed that several strangers thought this sneaker was the pricey Prada Luna Rossa 21 because it is "incredibly nice and spotless," only to find out they are only Vans.

Unique and spotless details

Unanimous of the reviewers love the chic and clean look of the EVDNT UltraWaffle. They adored its unique knit mesh pattern, making it "even more interesting." The pattern of the mesh changes along the upper, "some parts are stretchy while some are firm." A user also praised the retooled, shiny, embroidered Sidestripe branding, "it gives a nice clean, modern look."

Premium quality

The majority of reviewers applauded the materials utilized in this model. "All the best materials went into this!" a user exclaimed. Also, a few felt that this kick gives a glimpse of the "future generation of sneakers." A picky user has declared, "this is almost perfect," while some raved that the EVDNT made them "never want to wear another shoe."

Soft cushioning

Calling this "Vans' greatest innovation," countless reviewers mentioned that there's a lot to like about the cushy UltraCush technology. Although it is not as responsive as the Adidas Boost and Nike React, this pair's insole absorbs shock "similar to memory foams." This sneaker is for you if you want "a little bounce, a little squish" and can still feel the floor.

It will keep you feeling comfy for hours

After wearing this for hours, almost all reviewers praised its next-level comfort that feels "comfy to wear all day." Some mentioned that this pair feels more comfortable than Vans Old Skool or Chuck Taylors.

They specifically enjoyed the sock-like fit of its single-piece bootie construction. Its LuxLiner plus a decent amount of padding prevents heel slippage and further "makes the shoe fit quite comfortably."

Undoubtedly versatile

Featuring a modern style, "a brand new everyday casual wear," the majority believed this sneaker is best for work, travels, or light sports. It offers a versatile look that is easy to pair up with countless attires. One user even pledged to add this to his "pile of beaters" when running errands or doing things around the house.

Awesome functional transparent sole

"Very du jour!" one user went crazy on the one-off opaque rubber midsole with a panel. "An authentic showstopper!" many found it chic, voguish, and luxurious and appreciated how it enhanced the sneaker's durability.

Well-ventilated upper

"The breathable version of the Old Skool," the EVNDT UltraWaffle's knit mesh upper permits air to flow freely in and out of the sneaker. It offers "great breathability" from the knit mesh upper to the tongue.

No dragging-down sensation

Users appreciate how lightweight this sneaker feels on their feet. Several mentioned that this kick is "significantly lighter than most Vans."

Super sticky outsole

Apart from its style, this translucent ice outsole offers superb grip with plenty of traction on various surfaces.

Vans EVDNT UltimateWaffle Stability shank

Vans EVDNT UltimateWaffle offers stable ride

This pair has a built-in stability shank that provides added cushioning and support. A user described it as "better than the Ave Pro." Some reviewers have reported that this sneaker helps them "prevent any overpronation."

It comes with freebies!

Online buyers loved that this kick comes with a fancy waffle plate for their keys to keep and a bunch of Vans stickers.

It has oh-so-soft laces, too

"The softest laces I've encountered!" a fan cited how he loves its unique laces. "They look expensive," "they feel like satin-y," "fantastically amazing!" others have mentioned. One fan even shared that if ever Vans sells thems separately, he'd probably buy them and "put them on my other shoes."

Fits tight on the toe box

This sneaker has a thick rubbery or suede-like material covering the entire vamp. While it provides good protection on the toes, it makes this kick fit very snug. "This is my main problem," when walking, the vamp digs into the toes, which feels very bad as it provides "far less room in the toes."

Also, many consider this "tighter than all other Vans" to the point "they hurt my feet." Some shared this has "no wiggle room for my toes."

Wears out quickly

A user complained about the mesh fabric, where the toes bend while walking, cracked really quickly. It is this pair's "weak spot" shared by dissatisfied users. Another complaint received is from a wearer who wore this pair for 2.5 months for daily errands "the sole delaminated from inner structure" and started to fall apart. Many skaters have discouraged their readers from skating in this kick as it will rip "in less than a day," just after a few ollies and dolphin flips.

Tad bit stiff outsole

Since this pair is for BMX use, several fans confirmed that "it has a stiff sole." This pair is not as flexible as other Vans skate sneakers.

With squeaking sound

No matter what they do, several buyers mentioned, "there's a huge squeaking sound!" from the rubber outsole, which does not go away. Although this sneaker generally feels comfortable, users griped, "it is a major turn-off" as its incredibly loud sound "annoys everyone within earshot."

Vans Ave Pro's little brother

Vans took advantage of its decade-long experience designing innovative sneakers to develop a lifestyle sneaker with superb comfort and style. The Vans EVDNT UltimateWaffle took everything we love about the performance-focused Vans Ave Pro and redesigned it for street use. These technologically advanced sneakers display almost identical details, like stabilizing plates, UltimateWaffle construction, Luxeliner, and UltraCush, but the EVDNT is said to have more lifestyle-appropriate features.

  • Both sneakers display super-dense solid soles. However, the Ave Pro's considered flexible, while the EVDNT has a bit rigid sole as it is also built for BMX use.
  • For added durability, the Ave's has Rapidweld on its eyestay, Jazz Sidestripe, and toe box, while the EVNDT has stitched tumbled leather on the eyestay and heel to add a luxe touch.
  • The high wear areas of Ave's, such as toe box and ollie pads, are covered with suede to give them better protection from wear, while the EVNDT has Rapidweld technology in these areas for a sleeker look.
  • Comparing their heel tabs, the EVDNT has a higher one for easier on and off and to better secure the heel from slippage.
  • The stabilizing plate found on the EVDNT separates the heel and the ball of the foot, while the Ave has the plate right in the middle of the foot.
