Updates to Under Armour Charged Assert 8

  • The Under Armour Charged Assert 8 is a version of the Assert series of running shoes. It doesn’t use the Micro G® foam midsole. Instead, the Charged Cushioning® technology serves as the platform, with its high-tier durability and responsiveness taking over as the modules for reactive and precise performance on the roads. The addition of an EVA sockliner reinforces the feeling of standing on a soft surface.
  • The facade looks mostly similar to its counterpart, with its multilayered mesh, a color-shifting overlay system, and leather overlays. But the differences lie in the design pattern behind the Assert 8’s mesh (now a set of lines instead of geometrical shapes), a pull-tab on the back, and reflective elements on the toe cap.

Size and fit

The Under Armour Charged Assert 8 has been designed to be true to size. Runners are encouraged to get a pair using their usual sizing expectations.

The elements that help with the attainment of a secure and accommodating fit are the semi-curved shape of the lasting board and the form-welcoming fabrics of the upper.

Outsole

The outsole of the Under Armour Charged Assert 8 is made of solid rubber and ground-contact foam. The later only makes up the medial side of the external pad, likely to reduce the overall weight of the product. The rubber covers the distinct contact points, ensuring that the rest of the midsole’s base is safe from the abrasive nature of the roads. Traction is also a trait given by this layer as it ensures precise and confident motions on every running session.

Deep and shallow flex grooves are found between the midfoot and the forefoot. These trenches make the platform as flexible as possible, thus permitting the foot to move naturally through the gait cycle. The toe-off phase is the part that benefits the most from these things as it flexes the toe joints and tendons.

Midsole

Underfoot support is the responsibility of the Charged Cushioning® technology, a foam that runs the entire length of the Under Armour Charged Assert 8. It is made of compression-molded material, so it aims to be plush yet durable enough to carry the weight of the runner and the performance of the foot as each step is taken. It also has the capacity to return energy from the striking phase and enable an enervated liftoff.

A sockliner is placed right on top of the main cushioning unit. This add-on is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate, an industry-standard compound. It contributes to the overall comfort by being a source of a bit more cushioning. It is removable or replaceable if the wearer wants to do so.

Upper

The upper of the Under Armour Charged Assert 8 is made of mesh. This net-like material is the one that wraps around the shape of the foot, securing it and keeping it from wobbling. It has a multilayered design, with a translucent exterior that mildly exhibits a pattern of lines that make up the aesthetics of the interior part. Breathable mesh is used by many brands to elevate the comfort of their users. Series like Nike Downshifter and the Mizuno Wave Creation feature uppers that are made of mesh.

Tiny holes that pockmark the mesh permit environmental air into and through the foot-compartment, thus giving a cool and dry ride.

Leather overlays are stitched onto the front, the instep, and the heel part. These layers are designed to help with the attainment of a secure and accommodating fit. They also aim to shield the mesh from hazards such as sharp objects or other potentially damaging elements on the roads.

The Under Armour logo is printed onto the sides of the silhouette. These synthetic prints are meant to heighten brand recognition. They can shift colors to further emphasize the eye-catching purpose of the entire construction.

A traditional lacing system allows the adjustment of the tightness or looseness of the fit. Semi-round laces snake through discrete eyelets on the leather instep, encompassing the whole bridge of the foot.
