Style of the Sperry Captain’s CVO

Notable Features
To achieve a flexible, comfortable, and lighter edition of the Sperry Captain’s CVO, designers had to improve a few components of the iconic silhouette. Among these improvements included a removable insole that contours to the shape of the foot.
A lightweight outsole with signature Wave-Siping technology has been retained for enhanced traction, and a reinforced soft lining at the interior has been added for additional comfort and improved broken-in feel right out of the box.
History of the Sperry Captain’s CVO
A familiar low-top footwear design that has appeared since 1935, the Sperry Captain’s CVO or Circular Vamp Oxford sneaker has been a fixture of that preppy sailing style of the brand. The design was created by the brand founder Paul Sperry who noticed superior traction on the paws of his dog named Prince.
Sperry developed wave siping technology on the soles of the low-top shoe and included a clean and streamlined upper to complete the look of the Captain’s CVO. To modernize the heritage design, Sperry designers came up with a re-engineered sneaker to give superior comfort, lighter weight, and improved flexibility.
As a result, designers had to include extra heel padding and a removable insole or footbed to cushion the feet. A seamless upper was also introduced to eliminate abrasion while a loose lining enhances breathability for the vintage sneaker.
