7 reasons to buy

  • Weight: The Razor 3 Elite is unbelievably light (5.4 oz) compared to the other carbon-plated racers (7-9 oz on average).
  • Propulsion: All runners appreciate the lively pop provided by the plate that doesn't feel intrusive or stiff.
  • Cushioning: The Hyper Burst foam provides a soft ride and 'tons of bounce and energy-return.' Some runners also note how they still have energy in their legs after running in the shoe.
  • Breathability: The paper-thin mesh is barely felt on the foot and is excellent in hot conditions.
  • Fit: The shoe gives a snug, race-shoe lockdown all throughout the foot, according to most reviewers.
  • Irritation-free: None of the reviewers reported rubbing or hot spots from wearing the shoe.
  • Grip: The streaks of Goodyear rubber helps you stay surefooted on wet pavement.

5 reasons not to buy

  • Not for marathons: More than a few athletes looks for a higher drop (more than 4 mm) and stack height for going the full marathon distance.
  • Not for wide feet: The toebox has a very form-fitting design with little space to wiggle toes.
  • Outsole wears out fast: Several reviewers predict that it won't last 300 miles because of significant wear in the early stage of usage.
  • Color bleeding: Most testers warn against wearing white socks as the blue paint has a tendency to bleed.
  • No runner's knot: There is no extra pair of eyelets for tying the runner's knot.

Bottom line

The Skechers GOrun Razor 3 Elite Hyper is a race shoe from Skechers that combines a feather-light racing flat and a snappy super shoe. It shines on distances up to half-marathon and works best for forefoot/midfoot strikers who like to go faster.

Skechers GOrun Razor 3 Elite Hyper: an uber-light carbon shoe

Skechers uses the best practices from its previous Razors and Speed Elites to introduce a new carbon-plated race shoe, the Razor 3 Elite.

It is a low-drop (4mm), low stack (28mm heel height) flat that doesn't feel minimal because of the bouncy Hyper Burst and a snappy carbon plate.

Best for:

  • distance: 5K to half-marathon
  • speed: moderate to fast
  • pronation: neutral

What makes Razor 3 Elite special

  • Weight: At 5.4oz (153 g) in a men’s size 9 is it among the lightest carbon-plated shoes.
  • Unobtrusive carbon plate: Placed only under the forefoot, it makes the ride more natural yet stable and snappy at toe-off. It is less stiff than the one used in the Skechers Speed Elite and has no side winglets.
  • Hyper Burst cushioning: It is the brand's top-level foam which is highly responsive and resilient yet extremely light.
  • Rocker-geometry MStrike: Helps with smoother transitions and a propulsive toe-off.
  • Barely-there upper: Its mono mesh is among the lightest and most breathable upper materials on the market.
  • Race-day fit: The lockdown is very snug and secure.
