  • According to an experienced mountaineer, he had to replace the default insole as it offered no cushioning at all.

Bottom line

Superbly warm, waterproof, and lightweight—these are but a handful of qualities that give the Scarpa Phantom Tech a splendid reputation. That said, this true-to-size mountaineering boot might give wearers a headache with its compounding laces and mediocre insole.

To sum up, the Phantom Tech offers excellence thanks to its amalgamation of remarkable traits. Those who would be so inclined to own one, however, must have an aftermarket insole ready and be prepared to exercise patience during lace-ups.

  • The Scarpa Phantom Tech is a high-cut alpine climbing footgear constructed with lightness and sensitivity in mind. Its multi-tech upper is enclosed in a breathable built-in gaiter.
  • The boot has proper waterproofing thanks to the Outdry technology. It is imbued within the footwear’s gaiter.
  • It is compatible with both automatic and semi-automatic bindings. This is made possible by giving the gear sturdy welts at the heel and forefoot.

A unisex mountaineering boot is the Scarpa Phantom Tech. It is built around the NAG last which gives the boot a kind of fit that responds to the demands of technical climbs. Female climbers are advised to get it one size smaller to get the right fit. A secure lockdown is brought forth by the boot’s quick lacing system. The Sock Fit DV construction (includes the tongue and flex point of the inner shell) creates a sock-like fit.

Vibram Zero Gravity is the Phantom Tech’s source of traction. It is a combination of two Vibram compounds—Morflex and Mont—allowing the boot to perform in extremely cold conditions without sacrificing mobility and comfort. Its prominent lugs are designed specifically for treacherous ascents and challenging descents.

The Scarpa Phantom Tech has a stiff midsole with a fairly thick heel for impact cushioning. It is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)—a material that helps this component stay resilient under considerable stress and weight in low temperatures. Its heel and toe welts are made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Providing mountain climbers with extra cushioning and support is the carbon fiber plus EVA insole.

Housing the mountaineer’s foot is the Phantom Tech’s Cordura and aluminum main shell. It is engineered with Primaloft for insulation. Its tongue is gusseted, leaving no gaps in which debris may enter. The tongue also comes with Ribs, a plate-like implement made of polyurethane that distributes lace pressure evenly across the instep.

The boot also incorporates the Sock Fit DV, a proprietary Scarpa construction with agility and comfort as its benefits. It includes a tongue made of a one-piece S-Tech Schoeller Fabric that’s breathable yet waterproof and a Flex-Point (located above the ankle) made of technical fabric.

The top closure includes an elastic tape, a protective flap for lessening the pressure coming from the sliding tab and a clip button.
