Updates to Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro GTX
- The Mont Blanc Pro GTX upper was changed to a 3mm suede and S-Tech Fabric from a 3mm suede Perwanger HS12 of its predecessor. The new combination retains the shape of the boot as it ages.
- From an AG last, the updated version now uses the NAG last which was co-developed By Ueli Steck. It focuses the climbing power over the toe or the front of the boot for an accurate technical fit.
- The Sock-Fit technology is also featured in the Mont Blanc Pro GTX. Three components, including the flex-point, tongue and collar, are made of a one-piece Schoeller fabric. This construction produces a sock-like fit.
- The boot can evenly distribute pressure from the laces across the foot using the Ribs technology in the current version. It provides comfort by eliminating pressure points.
- The Mont Blanc Pro GTX now has an integrated gaiter with double snap closure. The press studs keep the boot shut even after traversing difficult terrains.
- The mountaineering boot prevents slippage through the Vibram Total Traction. It integrates a technology the brings protection to the user.
Size and fit
The Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro GTX is a boot for men and women. This boot has a standard lace-up closure enhanced with the Ribs technology, delivering a snug fit. The boot is manufactured using European sizing.
The Mont Blanc Pro GTX features the Sock-Fit technology. This construction method combines the tongue, flex Point and collar using a one-piece Schoeller fabric to deliver a snug fit. The flex point system gives liberty to movement of the ankles without compromising support and confidence when tackling challenging terrains. It produces a sock-like fit.
The last used in this pair is the NAG. It provides comfort with emphasis on the climbing power of the front of the boot. It also gives a secure lockdown.
The lightweight Vibram Total Traction has features that enhance grip performance and cushioning. The unit has grooves in both the heel and forefoot zones for attaching crampons. It has dual density PU inserts created using a system called Scarpa Activ impact technology. This construction allows the sole to absorb shock protect the forefoot.
Mont Blanc Pro GTX midsole has PU/TPU formulation. Both materials are known to be highly resistant to abrasions. They are also elastic and lightweight.
The insole of this boot is the Pro Fiber 20. It is a combination of polypropylene and fiberglass. The upper felt coating resists a temperature of up to 250-degree Celsius. The lower coating is a compressed felt anti-stretch.
The Scarpa Mont Blanc Pro GTX upper comprises of 3mm suede leather and S-Tech Fabric. They are breathable and water resistant. The S-Tech Fabric from Scarpa is also known to be lightweight. Furthermore, this material once “lasted,” retains its shape despite wear and tear.
This mountaineering boot has an integrated gaiter which has a double snap closure. Coming with two poppers, it keeps the gaiter securely shut when tackling challenging terrains. This feature also protects the foot against debris.
The tongue has the Ribs technology. This ensures that pressure from the laces is evenly distributed across the foot. It involves the injection of PU on the elastic fabric of the tongue.
The Mont Blanc Pro GTX has a rand with a 360-degree coverage of the upper’s base. It provides protection and added durability. The rand on the rear securely locks the heel for optimum climbing performance.
Gore-Tex Insulated Comfort encapsulates the Mont Blanc Pro GTX to make it waterproof, breathable and insulated. It is chiefly designed for cold conditions, keeping the foot warm and dry. It inhibits water and snow from getting into the boot while allowing moisture inside to escape.
- The crampon rating of the Mont Blanc Pro GTX is B3. This means that it is a rigid boot that can fit C3 crampons, as well as C1 and C2 ones. It is suitable for some high altitude mountaineering, technical and alpine climbing.
- The current version drew inspiration from the late mountaineer, Ueli Steck. The boot introduces innovative components with the spirit of being light and fast. Steck, popularly known as The Swiss Machine, died from a fall in Nepal on April 30, 2017. He also helped develop technologies for other Scarpa offerings like the Charmoz.
- The brand recommends the following boot care procedures to extend the service life of Scarpa boots:
- After each use, rinse off mud and dirt with water. Use a sponge, damp cloth or brush in removing stubborn stains. If the boot is predominantly filthy, the use of a cleaning product (e.g. gel-based cleaners) is recommended.
- Dry the shoes naturally in a cool, dry place with good air circulation. Never force dry it using heat as it may damage the leather.
- Regularly use a suitable waterproofing treatment based on the type of boot you have. Scarpa recommends waterproofing it whenever they are extremely dirty or when the water stops beading on the boot surface.
- Do not over treat the tongue, D rings and hooks as it can soften the leather and damage the stitching.
