Good to know
-The Gecko Air Flip is Scarpa’s love letter to approach adventurers who wish to earn both horizontal and vertical miles with as much agility and breathability as possible. It is designed to be packable, even more so than its equally breathable sibling—the Gecko Air, thanks to its extra flexible heel construction.
-This hiker aims to deliver a combination of comfort, protection, and security underfoot with its highly durable sole unit, which is made up mainly of the shoe’s compression-molded midsole and Vibram outsole. This unified component has a moderate rocker at the toe for additional walking comfort, especially over level terrain.
Scarpa’s Gecko Air Flip is a low-top shoe designed primarily for male approach hikers. A bunch-free in-shoe experience, particularly around the user’s instep, is promised by its integrated tongue. Its sock-like construction, on the other hand, offers a more intimate fit. For lockdown security, Scarpa shoemakers gave it a ghillie-style lacing system.
Reptilla by Vibram is the name of the Gecko Air Flip’s outsole and the user’s main source of surface traction underfoot. It is based on Vibram’s Megagrip rubber compound, which has the capability to produce sufficient tenacity, whether the terrain is wet or dry.
It comes dotted with hard-wearing lugs (also known as studs) for multi-directional slip resistance over soft-soiled surfaces. For extra grip on low-rise boulders, on the other hand, the outsole in question comes engineered with a climbing zone.
The Scarpa Gecko Air Flip is armed with a one-piece compression-molded midsole for comfort and stability. Its entirety is made of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA)—a material that rivals rubber in the areas of durability, shock mitigation, and shape retention.
To help the Gecko Air Flip’s midsole in its cushioning game, Scarpa engineers paired it with a proprietary footbed, called Comfort Fit. This flexible subcomponent elevates the shoe’s level of comfort. It also ups the hiker’s support system around the arch region.
When it comes to protecting the foot from virtually all sorts of outdoor hazards, hikers/climbers have the Gecko Air Flip’s knit-based upper to thank. Slipping in and out of its sock-like shell is a relatively quick affair with its pair of synthetic pull tabs. Its almost seamless construction is thanks to its gusseted tongue.
Completing the Gecko Air Flip’s upper equation is the approach shoe’s ghillie lacing. It is made up of a soft-but-resilient synthetic lace and 5 pairs of long-wearing eyelets, none of which are plated.
