Who should not buy the shoe

This XC shoe is not for first-time spike wearers who have a wide foot. Testers of the shoe will not recommend it if you have wide or even normal width feet. It would be best to look for a different shoe.

For competitive cross country runners, they should better look for more elite XC spikes such as the Carrera XC or the Havoc XC from the same Saucony brand. They weigh less (about 1.5 ounces) than the Kilkenny XC8 and provide a better fit.

Provides moderate support

The Saucony Kilkenny XC8 Flat is a moderately supportive and lightweight cross country shoe created to provide sufficient comfort during competition and training sessions.

One reviewer said that the XC flat gives him a boost in speed to dominate the dirt during a cross country season.

A little narrow around the arch of the foot

Utilizing a full textile upper, this XC shoe offers a more relaxed glove-like fit, which is perfect for first-time spike wearers.

“My only complaint,” one reviewer writes, “is it is a little narrow around the arch of the foot.” This is probably by design thanks to the minds behind the Kilkenny XC8 who created it to suit narrow-footed speedy runners.

Affordable price range

At an affordable price range, the Kilkenny XC8 flat is not only effective at tearing up cross country courses but also on the track.

A runner, who used the shoe for 800 to 1500-meter races, was surprised the XC8 flat made him run faster than his track spikes.

Offers moderate traction

Like many XC spikes, the Kilkenny XC8 flat offers moderate traction, thanks to its light-weight EVA foam midsole, as well as carbon rubber outsole.

3D printed overlays integrated in the overall construction provide sufficient support, while at the same time keeping the shoe lightweight.

Saucony Kilkenny XC8 Flat is a breathable shoe

Lastly, 360-degree breathable mesh upper gives the XC8 flat the finishing touches. This allows a good amount of air flow in the interior.

I race distances between 800 meters and 10K whether it be on the track, the roads, or on cross country courses. My typical training consists of easy days, long days, workouts (fartleks, tempos, interval training, etc.). My typical training paces range from 7’30 a mile on easy days to sub-5 minutes a mile on fast interval days, and with many paces in between. I run anywhere from 40-60 miles a week. My personal bests are 2:00 for 800m, 4:30 for 1600m, 9:50 for 3200m, 15:57 for 5K, and 34:10 for 10K.
