Good to know
- This iteration of the Salewa Raven GTX is updated to make tough alpine terrain a light work. Its Gore-Tex-lined upper is still made from a mix of suede and abrasion-resistant mesh. Other upper auxiliary features—also carried on from its predecessor—are the 3F Lacing, Climbing Lacing, and Flex Collar.
- This third version of the Raven GTX still employs a Bilight midsole for durable cushioning. A Vibram WTC outsole makes a comeback but has slight style variation from the previous sole design.
The Salewa Raven 3 GTX is a fairly true-to-size boot for male and female mountaineers. It comes in regular sizes and standard width. The 3D Lacing and Climbing System work together to achieve an optimal fit. The former divides the lacing into three sections—cuff, midfoot and forefoot. The latter offers accurate adjustment in the toe area.
This alpine boot from Salewa employs a Vibram WrapThread Combi (WTC) outsole. Its offers grip and surefootedness over rugged terrain. It has a Climbing Zone (a component also present in another mountaineering boot, the Scarpa Charmoz) at the toe area for more precise footwork. Its deep lugs are widely spaced to prevent muck from building up and facilitating automatic shedding of debris.
The Raven 3 GTX has a Bilight midsole which has an ergonomic shape to provide optimal shock absorption and long-lasting cushioning. A stiff shank (made of nylon + 27% fiberglass) grants support and optimizes crampon compatibility of the boot. The Multi Fit Footbed Plus (MFF+) has interchangeable layers for personalized underfoot stability and comfort.
The upper of this mountaineering boot from Salewa combines a wear-resistant fabric and suede leather. It is lined with a Gore-Tex Performance Comfort laminate which provides a decent amount of insulation and creates a waterproof yet breathable interior. A rubber rand that wraps the base of the upper and an external toe cap enhance protection and durability.
The 3F System grants flexibility and support as it connects the instep to the sole and heel. Thanks to its Flex Collar, the ankle’s range of motion is increased. The closure system of the Raven 3 GTX uses combination eyelets for fit management. Lastly, a heel tab assists in easy on and off.
