Size and fit

This reimagined version of the RSX is available for purchase in both men’s and women’s sizing. Although some recommend going half a size up if you have wider forefoot for a roomier fit.

Extreme comfort is felt when wearing the RSX HD because of Puma’s RS cushioning technology that provides ample padding from the forefoot through the heel. A gel-like softness of the detachable inlay sole provides further comfort.

Puma RS-X Hard Drive Style

Styling the RSX HD comes in easy with the fun and playful color schemes available.

  • An athleisure look, for both sexes, will complete the outfit with a pair of RS-X Hard Drive on the feet.
  • Don on a pair of denim jeans, a shirt, and this retro, and one can go on about their daily grind.

Notable Features

Looking very similar to the earlier RS-X releases, one defining feature of the RS-X Hard Drive is the colorway. Paying homage to the late ‘80s, when computer technology was starting to make waves, is the grey shade in this model. A contrast of neutral shades and colorful accents on the RS pods make this a most-coveted model.

Taking a closer look at the toe cap and the lace panel, you'll notice that the two are made of textured, hard rubber for that added stability.

Keeping with the RS-X theme is the Puma Formstrip on the medial and lateral sides.

Puma RS-X Hard Drive History

In the eighties, fitness became a huge part of people’s lifestyles. Also, around this time, technology started to gain attention. And in the thick of it all was Puma.

The company known for the jumping cat logo was regularly doing researches that it can include in its footwear, and that is how the Running System came to be.

Envisioning how advanced technology will make an impact in sports, Armin Dassler, son of founder Rudolf Dassler, tapped Peter Cavanagh -- a professor at the Pennsylvania State University -- who was studying and analyzing the biomechanics of runners.

So by 1986, Puma officially launched the RS 100, which could track how far a user ran through an electric box located at the heel of the shoe. One could plug the shoe into a computer and download the information that contains the calibration data, how much distance one has done in a week, a month, a year. It also calculated the caloric cost of running. It was the Fitbit of today.

Puma relaunched the RS collection in December 2018 by releasing various RS sneaker designs. Although the new designs did not carry the tiny electronic mechanism, they boasted of multiple layers of different materials and pops of color. Bulky in design that is on-point of the dad, chunky shoe trend.
