Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Paraty History

In 1966, the Onitsuka Tiger company released a running shoe designed to be worn during the pre-trials for the 1968 Summer Olympic Games to be held in Mexico. They named this shoe the Limber Up Kawa BK and it was the first model from the company to carry the famous stripes that grace all Asics and Onitsuka Tiger shoes today. The Limber Up would later be renamed as the Mexico 66.

The company, later on, merged with GTO and Jelenk to form Asics and retro shoes were all but forgotten until the 2000s when a retro-nostalgia wave engulfed Europe and classics enjoyed another heyday. The Mexico 66 received critical acclaim and demand for the model further rose once Uma Thurman was spotted rocking the shoe.

The revival of the heritage racer featured a full-grain leather treatment for the tiger stripe and side panel, and suede for the toe cap and heel.

The Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Paraty keeps a lot of the elements of the original silhouette but adds new contemporary updates such as the removable of laces, new heel styling with contrast color, and a slip-on feature.
