Northwave didn’t rush into jumping into the flat bike shoe bandwagon. Instead, they took their time in developing their product until they’re sure about its grip and style. After 25 years, the Northwave Tribe was introduced. It features impeccable performance brought about by several elements.

A suede upper is partnered with large mesh inserts and abrasion-resistant toe and heel reinforcements. This provides adequate ventilation, durability, and excellent impact protection. Down below, its notable grip is supplied by a co-developed Michelin compound.

Grip and performance on uneven terrain. The Northwave Tribe’s outsole is crafted from a collaborative Michelin compound called the Gecko. It was chosen for its efficiency on uneven surfaces. The sole is made from a robust rubber compound that provides stability and excellent abrasion resistance.

The shoe’s tread pattern design took after the Michelin Jet XCR tire.

The Tribe features a flat sole design equipped with excellent grip and unique tread design. Although it looks like a street-inspired shoe, it provides a more significant amount of grip than casual shoes. The footwear is designed to clutch onto the pedals and aid in efficient power transfer while pedaling.

Some of the pedals you can pair with this footwear are Crank Brothers 5050 xx, Twenty6 Predator, Race Face Chester, and Nukeproof Electron.

Sneaker-like comfort and appeal. Keeping your feet looking and feeling fresh, this pair’s suede upper features mesh inserts for breathability. It also provides a casual design that could be taken from cycling to any after-bike endeavors.

Moreover, padded collar and tongue offer enhanced comfort and cushioning.

Durable and provides adequate protection. This model’s toe and heel areas employ welded TPU reinforcements as an aid in lengthening the shoe’s lifespan and in impact protection. These added coatings are also abrasion-resistant.

Time-and-tested retention system. Utilizing the traditional lace-up closure, the Tribe flat bike shoe offers secure lockdown and highly adjustable retention. The non-stretch laces prevent lace damages and in turn, keeping their integrity for optimal fastening.

The shoe comes with an elasticated lace tuck to keep laces from getting caught in the pedal or crankset.

  • The Northwave Tribe comes with an extra pair of laces.
