What is it good for? The Northwave Raptor GTX is engineered for the following situations:
- Temperatures ranging from +5 to -10ºC
- Late spring, autumn, and mild winter mountain bike riding
- Drizzling weather
A mixture of stiffness and flex. The Raptor GTX employs the brand's Jaws Carbon Reinforced sole. It has a stiffness rating of 8 out of 15. This sole type yields pliability for ease in walking and rigidity for power transfer.
Grip. This shoe features a full-length rubber tread to provide traction on slippery surfaces. In addition, optional slots for toe studs are also provided to further enhance grip. Note that the toe studs are sold separately.
The Northwave Raptor GTX MTB shoe is SPD-compatible. It features a two-bolt cleat system and is suitable with the following pedal models: Shimano PD-M530, HT Components T1, Look Cycle X-Track En-Rage Plus.
Markings are placed in the cleat area to serve as a guide for cleat positioning.
Waterproof, insulated, and windproof. The whole shoe is equipped with the Gore-Tex Pique membrane, which is responsible for keeping your feet warm and cold in cold weather.
In addition, an extra layer of thermal coating is applied in the toe area.
Ankle movement and protection against elements. The Northwave Raptor GTX's ankle cuff is called the Climaflex collar. It is crafted from a really elastic Gore-Tex Rattler membrane and insulating neoprene. This combination yields excellent mobility, water- and cold-resistance.
Comfort. This pair's upper is constructed using the BioMap Aero Overlap system. This offers a snug fit and reduces aerodynamic drag as well.
Lockdown. The secure fit is governed by a single SLW2 dial. This closure is the only one that features step-by-step tightening and loosening and full release in a single button.
Moreover, enhanced retention is provided by this shoe's integrated heel system. It prevents heel slippage and keeps the foot in place.
Reflective. Reflective inserts are placed throughout the shoe to enhance the cyclist's visibility in low light conditions.
The Northwave Raptor GTX utilizes special GTX footbeds that feature layers of aluminum material and topped with fleece material for optimal insulation and comfort at the same time. These insoles work together with the Gore-Tex Pique membrane.
