Profile of the Northwave Origin
Who is it for? The Northwave Origin's design and features are mainly applied for beginners in mountain cycling. However, it can benefit other types of mountain riders as well, such as the following:
- Leisure mountain bike riders who ride just for fun
- Cyclists who don't particularly like super-stiff soles
- People who prefer Velcro closures
What is it for? This model is ideal for casual rides on off-road terrain.
Three density sole. The Northwave Origin MTB shoe employs the 3D Speedlight sole, which features three different areas of varying rigidity. The most rigid area is placed in the cleat area for power transfer, while the rest are either relatively flexible or supportive.
The stiffest area has a rating of 10 out of 15 in the brand's stiffness index chart. This sole type is engineered for riders who are new to stiff soles.
Traction. Rubber lugs are placed throughout the shoe's sole for grip on all types of surfaces. Moreover, additional slots for toe spikes are also provided for an even more improved grasp on extra slippery terrain. Note that the toe spikes are sold separately.
Replaceable heel pads. These serviceable rubber sole pads offer the user value for their money as they could get longer uses out of their investment. Once the original rubber pads start to dull out, they could replace it with new ones for fresh traction.
The Northwave Origin features a two-bolt cleat system. Some of the SPD pedals that are suitable for this footwear are Shimano PD-M530, Wellgo WPD-823 MTB CR-MO, and Crank Brother Eggbeater Clip-in.
The bolts are adjustable to allow the user to customize their cleat positioning. Markings are available for precise cleat placement.
Comfort. This pair's upper is constructed using a seamless unibody system. It helps prevent pressure points and rubbing while providing a snug fit. Moreover, four breathable mesh inserts are strategically placed throughout to ensure sweat-wicking ventilation.
Lockdown. Triple Velcro straps are responsible for this pair's snug fit. It can be easily adjusted even while riding.
Protection. Welded TPU reinforcements are placed in the toe area for added protection against bumps and impacts.
