10 reasons to buy

  • Many wearers think that the Nike Zoom Rev 2017 is a shoe that looks and feels good.
  • These Nike shoes have great traction on super clean courts, say several reviewers.
  • The upper and the midsole feel lightweight to most of the users. The same can be said about the third Nike PG.
  • A lot of wearers say that the soft mesh upper is the shoe’s highlight. They describe it as comfortable, durable, and soft. They also say that the material allows free movement, was nonrestrictive, and very breathable.
  • Due to the material used, users share that the Rev 2017’s upper is form-fitting and needed little to almost no break-in time.
  • Majority of the testers praise the shoe’s fit saying that it, “wrapped like a second skin” while another declares that, “this may be the fit of the year.”
  • Much like the midsole shape on the Nike Kyrie line (e.g. Nike Kyrie 5), the Nike Zoom Rev 2017’s rounded midsole gives a smooth heel to toe transition.
  • The wavy shape of the outsole enhances the cushioning of the shoe, a few players notice.
  • Many users think that the thick padding in the ankle collar and the tongue works great in securing the shoe. “They also feel like pillows on your feet” says one tester.
  • Majority of the wearers love that the materials give a premium feel at an affordable price.

5 reasons not to buy

  • For most users, the traction is the lowlight of the shoe. The pattern does not perform very well on dusty courts.
  • The pattern on the outsole is very dense and encourages dust buildup. For many of the wearers, wiping regularly got annoying.
  • The rubber compound on the outsole is not tacky enough, some testers noticed.
  • The overall roundness of the midsole and the absence of an outrigger can cause instability to the foot if the user is not used to these shapes. One user shares that bigger guys might see this as a problem.
  • Some comment that the outsole rubber is too soft for outdoor use.

Bottom line

The majority of reviewers say that the Zoom Rev 2017 from Nike Basketball satisfactorily addresses their need for an affordable high-performing and great-looking shoe that also feels good to wear. They highly recommend this to anyone who are looking to buy their first pair of hooping shoes.

One of Nike’s team model shoes for 2017, the Zoom Rev 2017 boasts a premium mesh upper, Zoom Air unit on the forefoot, and a herringbone pattern on the outsole that works really well on clean courts.

Cushion. The shoe features an injection-molded Phylon midsole that houses a bottom-loaded Zoom Air unit at the forefoot. This type of setup provides ample impact protection at the heel and responsiveness at the forefoot for efficient take-off. The wavy shape of the outsole gives a “crash pad” effect that contributes to the cushion’s springiness.

Traction. The Nike Zoom Rev 2017’s traction pattern uses a combination of a tightly packed, full-length herringbone pattern and a ripple-like embossing that gives the outsole its wavy form.

Since the grooves are very dense, the outsole will need frequent wiping on moderately to excessively dusty courts.

Length and Width. Generally, the shoe fits true to size. Those with slightly wide feet are advised to stay with their standard Nike basketball shoe size since the upper material stretches and later on conforms to the foot’s shape. Those who have very wide feet are suggested to try on the shoe in your local shoe store.

Lockdown. A thick padding on the ankle, which is akin to the Geofit technology on Adidas shoes, helps to hold down the foot when laces are tightened. The internal heel counter, works in tandem and cups the heel in place, ensuring no heel slips.

The sides of the midsole form a slight wall that centers the foot onto the sole. The durable mesh upper completes the lockdown system by wrapping the foot to the midsole forming a unit that is ready to ball.

The Nike Zoom Rev 2017’s upper features a soft and lightweight textile mesh that is backed by foam. The upper is overlaid with fuse in high-wear areas such as the toe rand and lace loops. The tongue and ankle collar are heavily padded and are comparable to the Adidas Geofit system.

For the midsole, Phylon cushioning and a forefoot Zoom Air unit is used. The outsole, depending on the colorway, is made of either clear rubber, solid rubber or gum.

The Zoom Rev 2017 takes the classic basketball shoe silhouette and adds futuristic details such as the wavy midsole. The shoe also experiments with different textures on its upper while maintaining a minimalist look. A Nike logo is printed on the lateral side of the shoe and the shoe’s outsole.
