Why change something if it ain’t broke? That’s Nike’s mantra when it comes to the SpeedSweep. This wrestling shoe from Nike is now in its seventh iteration. From its inception up to this point, most of the changes have mostly been cosmetic. The design of this model is straightforward: a full-length outsole, a thin midsole, and a soft and breathable upper. The combination of these three elements delivers a gear that allows wrestlers to be fast and nimble on the mat.

If a flat outsole isn’t your style, but you are a fan of wrestling shoes from Nike, the Nike Inflict 3 might be more suitable for your needs. This model uses a breathable mesh top with suede and synthetic reinforcements. Like the SpeedSweep VII, it too has a single strap at the ankle for enhanced support and lace lockdown. As for the outsole, the Inflict 3 uses a split sole construction. It provides grip, but still allows to slide on the mat when needed.

The bottom of the SpeedSweep VII is protected by a full-length rubber. The lack of suede on the outsole ensures traction regardless of the part in contact with the mat. The tread pattern on this pair of wrestling trainers enhances traction and also helps with the flexibility.

The SpeedSweep VII employs a thin layer of die-cut EVA foam. It prevents the foot from sliding inside the shoe. It also ensures that the foot is comfortable during every match.

Making up the top of the Nike SpeedSweep VII is a mesh fabric. This material is soft, ensuring comfort. It is also breathable, which aids in the ventilation of the foot chamber.

Suede and synthetic overlays are used to reinforce various parts of the upper. Suede covers the bottom section, the collar, and the eyestay. Meanwhile, synthetic is used for the Swoosh and the ankle strap.

The combination of the lacing system and the ankle strap delivers a secure lockdown. The single strap at the top also tucks the shoestrings, preventing them from untying during matches. As for the socklike fit, it is maintained by the light padding on the tongue and the collar.
