Good to know

  • Nike takes it easy regarding changes in the LunarEclipse 5. Fans of the line will immediately notice the new seamless Flyknit upper that offers more stretch the previous version. As the upper is a little more forgiving and less restrictive, runners should be able to enjoy a more form-fitting fit that hugs the foot in comfort and security.
  • A new FitSole sockliner is more plush and delivers better step-in comfort and locked in feel. Rounding out the changes is the presence of new reflective materials that will make running in low-light areas safer.

Nike continues to provide the trademark fit and sizing of the LunarEclipse series in the 5th edition. A standard fit running from the heel to the forefoot adapts to the feet of most runners. The standard widths of D for men and B for women are the available widths while sizes are from 6 to 14 for the men’s and 5 to 11 for the women’s.

The outsole shows average-sized bladed lugs that offer both a little cushioning and flexibility. Covering the heel and other areas suffering the brunt of wear and tear is the durable BRS 1000 carbon rubber. The Swoosh-exclusive Environmentally Friendly Rubber, which has been used in some Nike running shoes, offers traction on a variety of surfaces on the road.

Nike’s soft and responsive Lunarlon foam covers the midsole. A gender-specific crash pad is located in the heel to disperse shock and help with the cushioning. A high-density foam in the midfoot called the Dynamic Support keep mild overpronation at bay.

The engineered mesh of the Flyknit upper in the LunarEclipse 5 has more stretch for improved adaptability to all sorts of foot shape. It is extremely breathable and really wraps the foot like a second skin. A few synthetic overlays work with the Flywire cables through the laces to provide security, support, and a little stability. Nike uses a little structure in the heel through the Heel Clip. It extends from the sole to cradle the foot and limit heel slippage. Finally, the newly-incorporated reflective materials make runners more visible when running in low-visibility areas.
