Updates to Nike Flyknit Lunar 3

  • The mid-sole unit uses the Phylon foam unit as a carrier for a plusher and responsive unit in the core. It also serves as part of the outsole, so it is able to provide full-bodied cushioning while also being able to stay resistant to wear and tear. The core of the mid-sole uses the Lunarlon foam, which is springy and flexible.
  • Aside from having a surface-contact mid-sole foam, the Nike Flyknit Lunar 3 also has durable rubber placed on the contact points of the outsole. These areas are the ones that are exposed to the ground. The rubber shields them from wear and tear, therefore extending the lifespan and effectiveness of the sole unit.

Size and fit

The Nike Flyknit Lunar 3 runs a bit smaller than what runners are used to. It is recommended to choose one that’s ½ size smaller to get a more relaxed fit. The available width is medium, so it accommodates those with medium sized feet. Its semi-curved shape adheres to the natural shape of the human foot, enabling the runner to acclimate well to it when wearing it.


The BRS 1000 is made from carbon rubber, a very durable material that serves as a shield against abrasion and wear. Placed in contact zones of the outsole, it prevents damage from affecting the efficacy of the Nike Flyknit Lunar 3’s sole unit.

Phylon is a cushioning technology in this shoe that acts as a carrier for a much plusher foam core. It’s still able to give cushioning, but it acts as a foundation for the other foam so that it won’t succumb to sagging or depreciation of quality. It is also durable, as it also serves as part of the outsole.


The Lunarlon is a responsive cushioning unit that’s placed inside the foam carrier. Its responsive nature allows the runner to move more efficiently through the gait cycle. It is also springy, thus enabling the runner to feel more lift when handling the toe-off.

Molded flex grooves allow the platform to be more flexible. It is most helpful when it comes to the toe-off phase, where the foot bends the most.


The Flyknit fabric technology used in this model uses a one-piece construction with differing densities of knitting. The rear area is more closely knit, so it helps in securing the heel more effectively. The Flyknit material is also used in the Nike Epic React Flyknit 2 and other Nike running shoes.

The mid-foot and forefoot sections have a more open construction, allowing air to enter the shoe easily.

The Flywire cables connect the upper unit’s fabric to the lacing system. Whenever the shoelaces are adjusted, these cables tighten or loosen, giving a customized but secure fit.
