- Nike’s latest invention—the React foam—is made available in the new road running shoe called the Epic Phantom React Flyknit. At first sight, it is apparent that the shoe has a laceless, one-piece upper design. Despite the lack of shoelaces, the shoe effectively grips and supports the foot for efficient movement.

- The full-length Flyknit upper intends to give the most lightweight coverage and most breathable ever, as it does away with laces and overlays that are usually present in conventional running shoes. Its slip-on, minimalistic design is likened to a “phantom,” with its aim to be unnoticeable during wear.

- As Nike’s latest innovation in shoe technology, the React foam aims to deliver superior energy return. This exact feature is brought to the Epic Phantom React Flyknit, pushing for a level of responsiveness that is 13% greater than the brand’s other cushioning tech—the Lunarlon.

Similar to the other variations of the Epic React running shoe, the Nike Epic Phantom React Flyknit has a fit that is true-to-size. Runners with low to moderate foot volumes could expect an accurate fitting with their usual size preferences. Conversely, wearers who want more toe room could go a half-size up.

The Epic Phantom React Flyknit comes in a Medium width profile for both the men’s and women’s versions.

Taking part in the minimal construction of the shoe is the outsole of the Nike Epic Phantom React Flyknit. It comes in the form of two rubber pods located in the heel and forefoot areas. These elements provide the necessary traction that improves the quality of each stride.

The rest of the outsole is an exposed portion of the React foam in the midsole. With such a design, the shoe is flexible and the ride is smooth while retaining ample cushioning. The little outsole material also contributes to the lightness of the shoe.

The same outsole construction is also present in the Nike Air Zoom Structure 22, a stability shoe for the road.

The React foam in the midsole of the Epic Phantom React Flyknit is created to be the most durable cushioning material yet from the brand. The foam reacts accordingly with each step during the run by bouncing back to its original state, thus ensuring a consistent ride. The React foam’s durability also promotes long-distance running because the sturdiness guarantees it will last longer than other midsole materials.

A fluid geometry pattern is also present in the midsole. This feature lets the midsole construction to extend to the upper, thus distributing it equally across the shoe. The result is an even lighter structure that helps in maximizing the running performance.

The Flyknit element of the Nike Epic Phantom React Flyknit is made from high-strength fibers that, when woven into the upper, offers support and structure on targeted areas. The material is also stretchable, which ensures a snug and contoured fit. In addition, the Flyknit is engineered to be sock-like for comfort, yet durable enough for running.

In the forefoot of the upper is an open-knit portion that gives the shoe flexibility and allows more mobility.

At the heel area is a piece of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that aids in foot stability for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

There are pull-tabs positioned in the heel and tongue of the shoe that permit a convenient way of wearing the shoe.
