Updates to Newton Distance Elite

  • Speed and flexibility on the road are the main points in the introduction of the Distance Elite from Newton. With several parts taken from several of its most popular shoes, the Distance Elite offers lightweight cushioning, low to the ground feel, and durability with decent support for high-mileage runs.
  • Newton introduces this shoe as a great option for those who are looking for a really light shoe with more than enough cushioning for long distances. The sole is a bit firm, which helps runners picks up speed. It is also a bit of an oddity for a shoe designed for fast-paced runs as it has a wide toe box.
  • The highlight of this shoe is the use of the brand exclusive Action/Reaction tech that really softens the blow of the impact and offers a substantial return of energy, which is simply what serious athletes and racers are looking for in a performance shoe.
  • The smooth heel to toe transition created by the full-length midsole and the Action/Reaction lugs in the outsole enhance the speed and efficiency on the road.

Size and fit

The Newton Distance Elite has a very athletic fit that hugs the foot like a second skin in the heel and the midfoot. From the midfoot, it widens to a very roomy toe box that should allow the shoe to help runners with slightly wider or flat feet feel more comfortable. Available width is the standard D for men’s and B for women’s. The sizing is accurate in this shoe and is offered in the following: 7 to 15 for the men’s and 5 to 11 for the women’s.

Outsole

The outsole features the unique Action/Reaction lugs that are situated right beneath the metatarsals. Based on their study, this never-seen-before outsole design gives ultimate responsiveness and underfoot protection. A high-density rubber is used in the forefoot for traction and durability while a carbon rubber is utilized in the heel for protection against wear and tear.

Midsole

The Newton Distance Elite’s midsole is also pretty minimal, due to the racing structure of the shoe. In place is the Action/ Reaction Technology, which can be seen in the forefoot and heel. These are in the form of external lugs that compress to absorb the shock forces when running and release the collected energy during toe-off. This feature is also present in the Newton Gravity 8, another shoe designed for competitions.

Aside from the energy-return properties of the shoe, the Met-flex grooves in the forefoot improve the foot’s ability to flex naturally. The runner can also expect a comfortable cushioning in the underfoot, because of the EVA midsole.

Upper

The main coverage is made up of open mesh, a breathable and quick-drying material that will keep the foot dry and cool. Minimal overlays are fitted in strategic areas for better support and help with the secure fit and foot-hugging wrap. In an effort to reduce irritation and bacteria, the brand incorporated the ETC sock liner and metatarsal stretch panels in the forefoot to maintain a healthy and hotspot-free environment. The slip-proof laces are also present with double-eyelets, as well as the strobe last that ensures a smooth underfoot feel. A toe cap that is a bit thicker with enough flexibility prevents the toes from getting bruised.
