Be a blur on the court when you’re wearing the Mizuno Wave Lightning Z5. Because of its segmented rubber outsole, players will be lightning-fast on their feet. This pair of Mizuno volleyball trainers is crafted to be lightweight, using top-of-the-line technologies, including the AIRmesh top, the carbon rubber outsole, and layers of light, responsive midsole layers.

This model did not stray too far from the previous iteration when it comes to the use of game-changing technologies. But, in one look, you would immediately notice that these are two different shoes. The synthetic overlays on the Wave Lightning Z4 aren’t as expansive as on the Wave Lightning Z5. Also, there are more cushioning technologies on the Wave Lightning Z5.

If you prefer more grip on your volleyball shoes, be sure to check out the Mizuno Wave Momentum. It features a full-length XG Rubber that provides a high grip on indoor court floors. Like the Wave Lightning Z5, it uses the Intercool System and SR Touch innovations for the midsole. It also has the DuraShield element on the toe box. However, the Wave Momentum uses other cushioning technologies like the durable and bouncy AP+ and the shock-absorbing U4icX.

The underside of the Wave Lightning Z5 is made of X10, a very durable carbon rubber. It is also grippy on smooth court floors. 

This model features the Sensorpoint. It is a suspension system that connects the Wave plate to the ground. This provides the foot with better surface feedback, which helps with stability.

A diagonal furrow, called the D-Flex Groove, can be seen on the midfoot. It helps players urn aggressively, at maximum speed, without losing their balance. It also aids in smooth side-to-side movements.

The Mizuno Wave Lightning Z5 employs several layers of cushioning technologies for shock-absorption, bounce, and steadiness. One of which is the ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. It provides shock-absorption to keep the foot and the rest of the lower extremities protected against impact. 

At the heel is a noticeable gap. It is created by the Parallel Wave Plate component. This undulating structure effectively distributes shock. It also steadies the rearfoot as the foot shifts from the heel to the toes.

A neat feature of this model is the Intercool element. It is a ventilation system that connects to a mesh-covered opening on the outsole. It aids in temperature and moisture control. 

This Mizuno volleyball trainer is also equipped with the PoWnCe. It is a cushioning unit that is comparable to another proprietary foam from the brand but is said to be 10% lighter. It is responsive to pressure, making each step powerful.

Another notable innovation used is the SR Touch. It is a midsole layer that enhances shock attenuation to give comfort to the wearers. It is light and flexible, aiding in the smooth and fast heel-to-toe transition.

Sitting atop all these midsole layers is the Anatomical Cup-In-Sole. It is shaped to follow the natural curves of the foot, which helps with maximum foot containment and comfort.

The top of the Wave Lightning Z5 is constructed using the 360° DynaMotionFit technology. The mesh is precisely engineered to deliver a perfect fit that hugs every contour of the wearer’s foot. This attention to detail prevents chafing and helps with the secure foot lockdown. The use of light foam to line the tongue and the collar also helps with the secure wrap.

The type of fabric used for the upper is AIRmesh. This material is structured with pores that allow cold air to freshen the foot chamber and for heat to dissipate. Moisture accumulation is lessened because heat buildup is kept to a minimum. It is also soft, facilitating the natural expansion and movement of feet.

Synthetic overlays make up the topmost layer of the upper. They protect the mesh against tearing. They also enhance the overall structure, thereby improving foot containment.

A traditional lacing system is used on the midfoot. The synthetic overlays integrate with the eyelets, so when the shoestrings are pulled, the lateral support is amplified.

The toe box is protected by the DuraShield. This piece of rubber strengthens the tip of the shoe, guarding against bumps. It also protects against abrasions when the player drags the front of the foot during service.
