2 reasons not to buy

  • A few wearers say that the shoe squeaks or ‘crinkles’ with each step, especially when wet.
  • Some customers note that the Merrell Yokota 2 WP isn’t for serious hikes. This shoe doesn’t perform as much as they expect it would in rocky terrains.

Bottom line

The Merrell Yokota 2 Waterproof is an all-around hiker that boasts a great level of comfort and support. This makes it a sought-after hiking shoe by people who suffer from foot problems like pain, bunion, and postural deformity. The shoe needs just a little amount of breaking in to get a nice fit.

While it can be used for varying activities on and off the trail, the Merrell Yokota 2 WP is more suitable for hiking on well-maintained trails.

Merrell Yokota 2 Waterproof features the M Select™ GRIP outsole that comes with specialized 4mm lugs for easy release of dirt and debris. This Merrell technology also features slip-resistant traction on wet and dry terrain.

The outsole also incorporates Merrell Air Cushion technology, consisting of heel-to-toe air pockets for additional support, a soft heel pod that helps absorb shock and enhances stability, and smart lug pattern for a lightweight feel.

For an even more comfortable feel, it integrates the Kinetic Fit™ BASE insole technology. This special type of insole works with the natural movement of the foot to provide stability in the three major arches during athletic activities.

Like with most Merrell hiking shoes, Yokota 2 Waterproof has an upper made from suede and synthetic material. It incorporates abrasion-resistant mesh panels for breathability, and a molded nylon arch shank that is soft yet extremely supportive. This hiker has a lace-up closure featuring a metal hook and eyelets. It is also designed with a wide-folding tongue to prevent dirt and debris from getting inside.
