Randy Merrell, Clark Matis, and John Schweizer founded the Merrell company in 1981. It is a US company that started as a maker of high-performance hiking boots. It all began when John Schweizer and Clark Matis, executives from the Rossignol ski company, decided to establish a new maker of hiking footwear.
Eventually, the two executives joined forces with Randy Merrell. Their boots were retailed at $500 were highly praised. In 1982, the company designed high-performance hiking footwear but at a more affordable price.
Merrell was acquired by Wolverine World Wide in 1997. Aside from hiking boot, other shoes have been released in the market.
