It has all the necessary features – hard toe, supportive heel cup, good cushioning and good grip – and is well-made, as you’d expect from Meindl.
- The Cuba GTX from Meindl is a versatile shoe that both trail explorers and city travelers can wear. Its low-top upper made with leather and mesh is lightweight yet amply protective.
- A Gore-Tex membrane is imbued within the hiker’s main bootie. This proprietary technology makes the shoe adequately waterproof.
- Its sole unit—made up of the footwear’s stabilizing midsole and Trail Activity Sport outsole—gives the Cuba GTX a rockered toe. This sole feature enables wearers to walk on level ground with improved comfort by allowing the shoe to rock during push offs.
A low-cut, fairly true-to-size shoe for male and female hikers is the Cuba GTX from Meindl. It has a decent selection of whole and half sizes. It is targeted at wearers with regular-width feet. A secure and personalized lockdown is made possible by the Cuba GTX’s classic lacing system. A snug feel around the ankle, on the other hand, is courtesy of the shoe’s padded collar with deep ankle pockets.
Thanks to Meindl’s Trail Activity Sport outsole, this day hiker is capable of preventing slips and skids on unpredictable terrain. It has low-profile lugs strategically arranged and patterned to secure the user’s footing with multi-directional grip. At its heel are ridges that add stopping power when navigating down slippery slopes. These ridges work in tandem with the sole’s hook-like heel in giving users more control during descents. Over at its forefoot, on the other hand, is a hardy extension that serves as the shoe’s toe bumper.
The Meindl Cuba GTX is engineered with a sturdy yet flexible midsole to cushion hikers against bumpy elements and stabilize their footing. It is designed to mitigate shock on every landing, thanks to its thick enough construction at the heel. Its tapered profile gives the shoe an overall slender look.
Contributing to the midsole’s cushioning capability is the Meindl-exclusive Air-Active footbed. It is a lightweight and quick-drying removable insert that actively absorbs moisture. It also adapts to the shape of the foot with time, giving a more intimate kind of comfort as a result.
Velour (or velours) leather and mesh fabric make up the Cuba GTX’s low-top shell. Its aggressively contoured ankle cuff are engineered with soft padding for extra cushioning. It has a semi-rigid heel counter for extra rearfoot support. Meindl engineers crafted its bootie with a breathable Gore-Tex liner, making the shoe fairly ventilated on the inside while adequately protected from the elements on the outside. For abrasion protection, its sides have been built with sturdy overlays. There is also a rubber rand reinforcing the upper’s toe box for defense against bumps.
Enabling hikers to adjust the Cuba GTX’s volume for a snug fit is the shoe’s classic lacing system. All of its eyelets except for the top pair are partly made of a one-piece cord that wraps around the ankle zone. Flat synthetic laces go through these lace holes and also the through tongue’s handful of lace keepers.
