Who should buy the Mavic XA Pro
The XA Pro is built for off-road adventures. It is a solid option if you:
- Need a shoe that features a solid outsole that attenuates shock and a tread pattern conducive for hiking.
- Need a shoe that closely wraps the foot, preventing hot spots and unnecessary movements.
Energy Grip Trail+
The Mavic XA Pro is equipped with the Energy Grip Trail+ outsole. This compound has a high resistance to abrasion and sharp edges.
This cycling footwear features the Contragrip tread pattern. It is designed to provide traction when traversing trails with loose soil, rocks, roots, or even mud.
Carbon composite internal plate
Inside the outsole is a carbon composite internal plate. It adds to the rigidity of the unit but still retaining some flexibility for walking.
According to Mavic, this model has a stiffness index of IET60/100. It means that it is rigid enough that it won’t bend while the user is pedaling, but still easy to walk in.
Two-hole cleat system
A two-hole cleat system is typically used in mountain cycling shoes like the Mavic XA Pro. It is compatible with clipless mountain bike pedals, including the Shimano M530, the Nukeproof Horizon CS, the DMR V-Twin, and the Crankbrothers Mallet E 11, to name a few.
Lightweight and anti-rip material
The top of the Mavic XA Pro is made from a lightweight and anti-rip material. Several layers of textiles have been thermally-bonded to create a seamless profile that prevents dirt from getting in. It also has a molded toe cap that protects the toes against bumps while hiking.
Endofit Tongue
The Endofit Tongue protects the instep against abrasion and pressure created by the strap and cable. It is an internal sleeve that hugs the foot to prevent chafing and blisters.Closing mechanism. There are two types of fit-adjustment systems used on the XA Pro. Up top is a single Velcro strap. The other is the Mavic Ergo Dial QR, which consists of a wire that tightens or looses, depending on the direction you turn the dial. Both contraptions can be quickly adjusted using one hand, even while on the move.
OrthoLite insole
Inside this Mavic cycling shoe is the OrthoLite insole. This thin foam unit prevents the foot from sliding around while pedaling. It also works with the ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) midsole in reducing the force of impact felt by foot while walking.
