Overview of this review
Updates to La Sportiva Wildcat 2.0 GTX
- La Sportiva is utilizing a new harness system in the Wildcat 2.0 GTX for even better fit and foot security. This fully integrated system locks down the foot for the uneven and really difficult trail.
- A sturdier and more structured heel provides yet again another dimension of support and stability on the trail. It helps to keep the foot from unnecessarily, particularly when going downhill.
- The outsole gets a slight addition in its features in the “downhill brake assist,” which allows runners to go downhill with abandon as the shoe will more than adequately deliver a stable ride and with full control of their movements.
Size and fit
The fit and sizing are fairly regular. It has an average heel and midfoot fit. Like the original version, the toe box feels a tad narrower than other La Sportiva shoes. The overall fit is great for runners with standard measurements. Medium and wide are the offered widths in the 2nd iteration of the La Sportiva Wildcat. Sizes are from 6 to 15 for the men’s and 4 to 13 for the women’s.
The La Sportiva-exclusive Frixion rubber is really sticky. This is the rubber compound that has unanimously garnered great reviews for this shoe. The Impact Brake System is the formation of lugs scattered all throughout the shoe that offers superior grip on difficult and challenging outdoor trails. Part of the improvement in the outsole is the downhill brake assist, which is a series of formidable lugs lining the heel to deliver an effective braking system when going downhill.
The midsole is basically made up of three components. First on the list is the MEMla midsole foam that is made of 80% standard EVA and 20% SBR. It is a resilient and adequately cushioned midsole.
Taking the cushioning to a new and great level is La Sportiva’s own 2.4mm-thick LaSpEVA foam for exceptional shock absorption and responsive features. The last element is the Flex Transfer Shank that is made of nylon. This gives the shoe stability and torsional rigidity.
One of the most distinctive features of the La Sportiva Wildcat 2.0 GTX is its high heel-to-toe drop, which is at 12 mm. In contrast, the Altra Olympus 3.0 is has a zero-drop platform. Both shoes are meant for the trails.
An AirMesh upper makes the shoe breathe very well. Underneath this mesh upper is the waterproofing membrane called Gore-Tex that effectively keeps off snow and water. The new hardness forms a connection with the overlays, the laces, and the mesh to provide superb support and lockdown feel.
