The Keen Voyageur did not score very high overall in our tests, but that doesn't mean it's not a good shoe for certain applications. In fact, if you live in the desert and have wide feet, these might be your perfect pair.
I can’t sing their praises enough.
After several weeks of hiking, the upper's sturdy leather hide, the rock-solid stitching, and the company's trademark brawny toe bumper showed virtually no signs of wear.
The Voyageur is so trail friendly and such a good fit for my feet that I was genuinely disappointed to find it anything less than perfect.
If you’ve got wider feet and are looking for a comfortable pair of hikers these could be a decent option if you find them on sale. I would recommend them only for use on dry surfaces or dry terrain as the traction on wet surfaces is very poor.
-The Voyageur is a hiking shoe from KEEN which wears a low-profile look yet ready for the outdoors. Its upper is made of a combination of leather and mesh to create a balance between water resistance and breathability. A fabric able to wick away moisture lines its inside for comfort. Auxiliary features of the upper include heel lock, pull tabs and pronounced toe cap.
-The S3 Heel Support Structure — S3 referring to Shock, Suspension, and Stability — is a technology developed to give firm support without compromising soft cushioning. It addresses pressure upon impacts and helps prevent accidental twisting of the ankles.
-This desert hiking shoe from KEEN uses a compression-molded EVA midsole for lightweight cushioning. It is paired with a metatomical footbed which takes care of arch support. An ESS shank is in charge with the provision of underfoot firmness.
-The anti-odor technology used in the Voyageur is the Cleansport NXT. It maintains a fresh in-shoe feel which uses a 100% natural process. It eliminates odor-causing bacteria with no harmful effects on the environment and the user.
-In contact with the ground is a non-marking rubber outsole. Its profile includes 4 mm lugs that provide 360-degree traction.
This low-cut hiking shoe is available for men and women. It has a wide forefoot area which allows comfortable toe splaying. The classic lace-up closure with leather eyelets enables hikers to customize the tension and achieve a snug fit. Also, the Voyageur has a heel wrap that locks the foot in for steadiness and prevents slippage.
The Voyageur employs a non-marking rubber outsole. It features 4 mm multidirectional lugs that grip onto rocks, sand, mud, and other types of terrain. The aggressive boots enhance its anchor on uneven grounds while the perimeter studs provide stability. The sole extends upwards at the front enveloping the toe area. It improves the shoe’s protection against accidental bumps.
The midsole of the KEEN Voyageur hiking shoe is a dual-density compression-molded ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). This lightweight material is able to absorb shock from ground impacts while cushioning each user’s step.
The Voyageur low also features the S3 (Shock, Suspension and Stability) Heel Support Structure. This configuration is incorporated into the shoe to support the foot by dissipating shock on impact. On the other hand, through its contoured heel cup, the foot is locked in place. These measures help reduce the chances of spraining the ankles.
Moreover, an ESS shank is added underfoot to provide torsional stability, especially on uneven grounds. It enhances motion control without limiting flexibility. A removable metatomical footbed follows the contour of the foot to provide arch support and comfort. It puts emphasis on the big toe or the metatarsal joint area which is prone to pressure.
This low-cut hiking shoe comes equipped with the Cleansport NXT. This feature is integrated in the fabric using an exclusive technology. It uses microbial enzymes which flourish on odor-causing bacteria (from sweat). This natural, hypoallergenic process removes odor biologically.
The KEEN Voyageur low primarily wears a water-resistant leather. The overlays that wrap the midfoot area help maintain the shoe’s structure and boost its durability. In between these inlays are mesh vents which promote air exchange for a cozy feel, especially on warm hikes. A moisture-wicking textile lines the interior of this Keen footgear which enables it to dry quickly after wet encounters.
Protection on the trail is optimized thanks to its gusseted tongue and rubber toe cap. The former prevents unwanted entry of loose trail debris. The latter shields the foot against painful knocks on rock-strewn trails.
Its lace-up closure system (includes loops and round lace) aids in fit management. Pull tabs are attached at the top of its padded tongue and at the back of the shoe to facilitate hassle-free on and off.
These KEEN hiking shoes wear the same materials and features—with only one exception. The Targhee III is equipped with the brand-owned KEEN.Dry technology, a feature which makes it waterproof. It expels vapor out without allowing water to penetrate.
On the other hand, the Voyageur is a non-waterproof version. Its leather upper offers water resistance. It optimizes breathability and comfort through its moisture-wicking lining.
Both shoes are incorporated with an ESS shank to provide stability over rugged terrain. They also generally run true to length.
-KEEN Voyageur has a mid-rise version for both men and women.
-Metatomical is a synthesis of metatarsal and anatomical.
-When caring for the shoe, it is recommended to use a soft bristle brush or a hand towel to remove dirt and debris. Stains can be removed by rubbing a gum eraser in a circular motion then light brushing afterward. Tough stains are removed by mixing water and a little vinegar. This process may cause slight discoloration to the area.
