Bottom line

Sleek, low-slung, and amazingly versatile - the KEEN Targhee Exp WP gets incredibly high marks for being comfortable, protective, and supportive. This updated trail shoe ensures the same level of comfort many people loved about the hikers from the Targhee collection, but this time, in a more stylish and streamlined look.

It may be on the expensive side for its class but nevertheless, it is a tough, all-terrain shoe that makes hiking more enjoyable. It's pretty lightweight as well but doesn't fall short in terms of performance.

Good to know

-The shoe features a performance mesh upper, a dual-density EVA midsole, and a rugged outsole. Inside the shoe is the KEEN.Dry waterproof membrane that shields the foot from rain or moisture.

-It also incorporates an Injected TPU heel capture system and an ESS shank for support and stability.

-The KEEN Targhee Exp WP also has a metatomical footbed that offers superior arch support.

This low-cut hiker from KEEN has a breathable mesh upper that stretches well and creates a snug fit. It has quite a roomy toe box and a slightly padded tongue and collar, for a comfortable fit. Moreover, the shoe features a clever bungee cord lacing system with a loop around the back. This enables the wearer to tighten both sides easily and keeps the back of the shoe closer to the heel for a more secure fit.

Lastly, the Targhee EXP WP comes with an injected TPU heel-capture system for a locked-in feel and stability.

The Targhee Exp Waterproof hikers feature an all-terrain outsole that offers a good amount of stability and durability. The top area of the sole has triangular lugs for enhanced grip on rock, gravel, and dirt.

More importantly, this outsole is designed for all kinds of surfaces, including wet trails, soft grass, and muddy ground.

This shoe uses EVA for the midsole. In particular, a dual-density EVA foam ensures that some parts of the midsole have enough flexibility and softness to support various movements. Such material is inserted into the shoe through compression, like most types of performance footwear.

On top of the midsole is another piece of EVA material that serves as the shoe insole. This footbed has a metatomical design which means it adapts to the shape of the foot, giving the wearer a more comfortable and supportive platform.

Between the outsole and the midsole is an ESS shank - a supportive structure that gives the shoe sufficient rigidity while maintaining comfort.

The upper is made of breathable mesh with leather overlays for increased support and durability. Mesh makes a good shoe material because it is resilient to abrasion and is quite flexible. Lining the shoe interior is a waterproof membrane that protects the foot against rain or water. It also features a mud shield made of leather for added protection and durability.
