Overview of this review
Size and fit
While many users declare Nike as a producer of narrow sneakers, in their defense, its narrow conformity has a reason. The thinner form of the men’s Jordan Eclipse off-court shoes adds support and keeps the shape intact on which wide-footed users sometimes cannot handle its clamped nature. Otherwise, comfort comes from the IU midsole for full-length cushioning and a shock-absorbing Zoom Air unit at the heel. The lining is also padded, and the OrthoLite™ footbed adds pleasure to every stride.
A lace fastening is featured by the sneaker for its enclosure. The sneaker utilizes a pull tab at the tongue for easy access.
Jordan Eclipse Style
It is best to flaunt the overall image of the Jordan Eclipse men’s sneaker with joggers or skinny pants in a way that clothing would not cover a part of the shoes. Shorts or pin rolled jeans would also do the job which coincidentally are summer articles of clothing. Sporty attire would also suffice with its clean and streamlined appeal. The Jordan Eclipse would look best on feet when coupled with hue-complementing apparel.
The Jordan Eclipse sneaker is produced in a wide array of colorways from multi-toned to classic white-on-whites. At first glance, the shoe projects a Roshe look but dwelling further to its intricate details; one can see a slightly taller heel and Jordan branding in the right places.
The honorable elements of the Jordan Eclipse include the midsole tooling and the first use of the Jumpman branding found at the heel, and the neoprene tongue from the Jordan VI and VII. The coveted technology of Zoom Air at the heel continued the legacy of previous Air Jordans.
Jordan Eclipse History
With Jordan brand's consecutive hits on annual sneaker-collected releases, its wingspan of ubiquitous designs hooked the attention of shoe enthusiasts of all ages. Its rich line of Michael-inspired footwear gradually instilled aspects of Jordan's life into sneakers on which the public can get a grasp on. By simply purchasing a pair from the franchise, one would be superficially blessed by your Airness' ankle-breaking maneuvers which by the way, is a brilliant marketing tool.
But with great sales-boosting powers, comes great responsibility of diversifying your product line. As the original Jordan fanatics age so does the relevance of the Jordan footwear. Younger generations who aren't born after Jordan delivered his last shot would only reflect on how an Air Jordan sneaker would feel and look and not by the prestige it carries unless, of course, these teens would search for it on the internet. But moreover, a market shift was done to cater to this opportunity.
In 2014, Jordan brand released the Jordan Future: a casual-designed sneaker that resembles the silhouette of the Jordan XI. It was one of Jordan's attempts to tap the lifestyle sneaker market which showcases style in a lighter vessel compared to classic Jordans. Subsequent releases of models followed garnering the street-inspired concept of the Future.
The Jordan Eclipse was released almost a year after the Future that's surprisingly available in a myriad of colorways. The Eclipse replenishes the Air Jordan branding at the heel and the midsole tooling of the AJ III. It also imitates the neoprene tongue of the AJ VI and VII. Comfort wouldn't stop there as the sneaker is inspired by the cleatie construction of the Nike Huarache. Most often compared to the Roshe Run, the Jordan Eclipse stretches farther from the misconception of just a "simple" silhouette.
Popular Jordan Eclipse colorways
An austere low top like the Jordan Eclipse is set for an adventure of its life considering colorways and whatnots. The minimalist upper serves as a canvas for different experimental designs. Anticipating the 2018 lunar eclipse, the tonal black and white Jordan Eclipse debuted. Coming alongside its March release is the Jordan Eclipse Deep Royal Blue edition which features blue and black weave upper patterns.
Succeeding the somewhat polarizing reception of the crowd was a dust/white-grey mist or roughly known as the all-white version of the Jordan Eclipse which can also be easily mistaken with the Jordan Eclipse Wolf Grey. The Jordan Eclipse Grey Mist utilizes the same mesh pattern as that of the deep royal blue while the wolf grey projects a subdued netting pattern on its upper.
Of course, a newly inducted Jordan shoe should have its own take on having Bred overtones. This Bred rendition of the Jordan Eclipse showcases black and red in unfortunate grade school sizes only. But to every fan’s delight, the sneaker was re-introduced to the adult consumer with a revolutionary twist. Instead of staying loyal to the mesh-based construction, the low top sneaker fuses perforated black leather materials with the mesh. To add flair to its already coveted image, a speckled midsole is introduced giving it more dimension.
The AJ 3’s elephant print is so ingenious that it had tapped almost all iterations in the Jordan Brand franchise. Waiting in line for its turn is the Jordan Eclipse which, due to excitement, was spontaneously released in a handful of elephant prints. One iteration reinvents the wolf grey edition while two others infuse hot lava detailing on its sole and upper.
2015 witnessed a custom Jordan Eclipse thanks to the Nike iD franchise. The said Roshe-resembling sneaker is gifted with a handful of color options for a more memorable silhouette. Included in the list of accents is the speckling of the midsole, elephant, or plain uppers, with a choice of either mesh or leather.
Around May of 2015, the Eclipse was given a Bugs Bunny rendition called the Hare colorway. Instead of going for the usual grey and white combo, the said sneaker goes full throttle with a purple mesh upper with a coinciding salmon-pink tongue. A second Hare was on circulation days after the first one was released. The Jordan Eclipse was covered in green and red mesh while green laces complete the carroty look.
After a month of highlighting the Hare editions, the simple sneaker took on a classic image that was one for the books. The Jordan Eclipse in black and gold detailing was introduced in mid-June and fans had flocked their way to cop a pair. The white tooling is contrasted by a full black mesh upper with gold detail featured on the Air Jordan branding at the heel.
The Jordan Eclipse GG in women’s sizing comes in black with pink piping. The GG iteration is also available in premium make-overs built for the winter due to its tweed-constructed uppers. Along with this new Jordan Eclipse release, a particular gamma green colorway was explicitly created for grade schoolers.
It goes without saying that an iteration named the Eclipse would undoubtedly be released at a time of an actual lunar penumbra phenomenon. The October 2015 moon-shadowing gave birth to three new silhouettes of the Jordan Eclipse franchise which includes a sweater-weather ready colorway featuring a multi-colored upper. The jagged blue, red, and yellow editions were inspired by Michael Jordan’s presence in a McDonald’s commercial years before. This Supermoon pack also contains two more designs dipped in midnight navy tints.
