9 reasons to buy

  • A lot of buyers mention that their favorite part of the Jordan CP3.X is the upper. It consists of premium and lightweight materials that are simply comfortable.
  • The rubber overlay gives a nice touch to the design of the shoe model.
  • Many users claim these CP3 shoes are true to size.
  • The rubber cage provides great support on the lateral side and flexibility on the medial side, say several wearers.
  • Most users observe that the rubber cage cups the heel, keeping the foot in place.
  • Plenty of wearers are happy with the outsole of the shoe. They say it does not attract dust easily, so wiping is not necessary.
  • There are a couple of users who say that these Jordan basketball shoes need a little time to break in.
  • A few buyers find the design of the CP3.X aesthetically appealing.
  • Because of the Flywire technology, wearers do not anymore worry about possible heel slippage or ankle injuries.

4 reasons not to buy

  • These Chris Paul basketball shoes are for indoor use only as some testers notice that the outsole rubber wears out easily .
  • A handful of buyers say that there are other shoes with better cushioning that are of the same price or even cheaper. This is an issue that the well-cushioned Jordan CP3 XI addresses.
  • According to a few users, the outsole rubber is not tacky enough to provide a good grip on the court.
  • For some reviewers, the size and firmness of the Zoom unit at the forefoot wrecked the overall greatness of the shoe.

Bottom line

Overall, the Jordan CP3.X is an average signature shoe. As said by reviewers, it could have been one of Jordan’s best shoes had the midsole been made entirely of Phylon or an additional Zoom unit been added at the heel. Unless you play like Chris Paul, this setup is not always the best especially at its $125 price point.

Good to know

The Jordan CP3.X is the tenth signature shoe of basketball star Chris Paul. As a point guard, Paul uses mostly his forefoot for his multidirectional footwork. The outsole of the shoe has a circular traction pattern with deep grooves.  This pattern has a good court grip on any surface. Unlike other shoe models with single outriggers, the Jordan CP3.X has a second slightly embellished outrigger on the fore lateral side. This provides Paul stability for all his side-to-side footwork. To prevent slipping and eventual ankle injuries, this mid-top shoe has a rubber heel cage.

Since Paul is usually on his toes, Jordan Brand places the Zoom unit at the forefoot to deliver just the right amount of responsiveness and court feel. The cushioning setup of Chris Paul’s shoe is almost identical to the performance basketball sneakers of Paul George. To keep his foot locked down, the midfoot is equipped with Flywire technology that uses nylon straps to contain the foot. As an improvement, the 11th Chris Paul Jordan basketball shoe features Zoom Air units in the forefoot and heel.

Cushion. Chris Paul is a lightweight athlete who puts a lot of pressure on his forefoot when playing. Using date from his movements and style, the Jordan CP3.X comes up with a nine-chamber Zoom unit and placed it at the forefoot. This unit provides plenty of court feel with less impact absorption. As a point guard, his playing style needs only minimal cushioning, which is already provided by the full-length Phylon.

Traction. Depending on the colorway, the outsole of the Jordan CP3.X can be made of gum, solid, or translucent rubber. The pattern on the outsole is composed of circular waves with thick grooves. These grooves provide wearers with great stopping power. The outsole rubber works well on both indoor and outdoor courts.

Length and Width. Many wearers suggest going true to size. They say the shoe has a nice and snug fit. However, new buyers with wider feet should know that the upper of the shoe does not stretch much. Therefore, they are advised to try the shoes first and see if a purchase is worth it.

Lockdown. To provide a secure lockdown, the lacing system of the Jordan CP3.X is reinforced with a Flywire technology at the midfoot. Flywire is a lightweight technology that provides maximum support through the nylon strings that are anchored on the midsole and extends up where the laces are. At the rear part, the rubber cage cups the heel to provide foot containment and prevent heel slippage.

The upper of the Jordan CP3.X is made of a performance woven material. This kind of material is designed to bring lightness, durability, and less break in time. This woven upper also allows enough airflow to keep the foot fresh. The rubber cage on the lateral side of the shoe extends to the heel for several reasons:

  • Together with the two outriggers on the lateral side, the rubber cage prevents ankle rolls.
  • The cage acts as an external heel counter, keeping the foot from moving side to side.

The Jordan CP3.X is a mid-top half-bootie shoe that comes in numerous colorways. The shoe model has a simple overall design, putting the spotlight on the  rubber cage, which has speckles and a large Jumpman logo on the lateral side. To signify that the shoe is part of Chris Paul’s signature line, his logo is prominently displayed on the tongue.
